How to Change Resolution for Widescreens?

I just purchased a 24" monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1080X32. I also have an EVGA GTX260 that can run in that resolution no problem. When I went to the game config settings the highest resolution I can find is 1280x960 or something like that after looking through all the video card options. This resolution doesn't look good on this monitor at all. Is there a way to adjust the settings to support 1920x1080? I'm running 4.08M at this point. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You have to do it in the player config.ini file. Its in the main 1946 folder.

Try this. In the conf.ini file there should be a bit that looks like this:

[window]
width=1024
height=768
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0
EnableResize=0
EnableClose=1
SaveAspect=1
Use3Renders=0

Change the width and height to the appropriate settings, ie. 1920 X 1080.

Next, set "EnableResize" to 0, if it isn't already set.

Then change "SaveAspect" to 0.

The game should now run at 1920 X 1080.

Good advice. There is some more information here:

Does this mean that with a rotatable monitor I can have 1200x1600? :-)

Yes, 1200x1600 works great to be honest.

Infact, since the sides of the cockpit are the limit, not a given field of view, you will lose the upper and lower part when switching from 4:3 to 16:9 or 16:10.
Mirrors will require you to look up, while you can see them normally on 4:3-monitors.
On the other hand, when using 1200x1600 you will gain additional portions below and above the normal field of view, so you can even see the mirror when in normal view or when looking through the crosshairs. Same is true for instruments, of course.

It's up to your personal preference, but I recommend disabling resizing on your monitor and then choosing a 4:3 resolution. This way you will have black bars to the left and right, but a rather large field of view.

Thanks for the reply, I tried the above settings and my resolution did increase but now the screen image doesn't cover the entire monitor. How do I get the screen to stretch so there's no blacked out areas on the left and right?

If you still have black bars, you did not enter the correct native resolution for your monitor. Did you check that link I gave you?

Then I'm not sure. The monitor out of the box is suppose to be set to 1920x1080. Wouldn't that be the native resolution? It's also a wide screen at 16:9 so is it possible that has anything to do with it? I'm not too sure what to at this point so any thoughts?

Did you set 'SaveAspect=0'..? Also, don't make any changes in the Setup menu after you have edited the conf file, or they will be automatically changed to something else.
