Having fun with balls
;)
I never thought too much of Lina (too inept to use chargers properly), but now in my latest game as warrior I've snuck into Kordar just to charge her batteries () and went back to Darion / Isles. I must say that the ice ball is so much fun. I don't often manage to get the ball rolling for major damage increase, but I've found it serves as a class A distractor for enemy troops. Just plant it in the midst of enemy ranks and they'll be virtually hypnotised by it, while your troops shoot away. Of course, this may not be viable on higher difficulty levels (playing on normal), but it's still heaps of fun. |
Viable as DD dealer or not, ANYTHING that stands between my Hunters/Inquisitors and that badass enemy walker unit 2 hexes away has a place in my book :)
|
I do wish, though, that the ball would retaliate or do some damage when attacked on account of those spikes.

Fun with Balls
On top of being a distractor, I will always wait out and summon it as the last turn, thereby able to place it at a spot that will roll and deal the max possible damage...
Just great Fun  |
I rarely use the Ball...How odd. Reaper happens to get the vast majority of my Rage points. I wonder why... ;)
|
Well, when you don't have the Reaper yet...
And even when you do, he has to rest sometime too... |
I also realized that the CHARGES are much more of fun - like mini in-game, where you have to get the charges before the enemy "takes" them (they dissapear when enemy steps on them.
Also- Should I attack/use ability? Or rather collect the spheres. (And I realize how much fun it is to choose collecting spheres, prolonging the battle also risking that enemy will use my greed against me via vicious counter-strike) Mostly I even don't need so desperately the ammount of mana/rage, but I need the fun of collecting the spheres :D... when I count in the random chests... each battle is much funnier :D |

P.S. What is your (enemy) unit of choice when you are harvesting rage/mana? So far, I love Alchemist the most. Whenever I can, I leave 1-2 alchemists alive, block them in a corner with one of my strong (high hitpoints) stack, and proceed with casting Mana Spring, poison cloud etc. The Alchemist has a short-range attack (cannot harm my weaker rangers on the other end of the battlefield, have a fair amount of HP themeselves (low risk of dying by accident etc. All in all, I love them for harvesting mana :) You know, we may need to seek professional help, you and me  |

Of course I am not such great strategyst to be able to control enemy units, that is why I am under such stress (and enjoy adrenaline) while I have to use my units for "collect and return - FEDEX" instead of solid fight :) |
