Zee SLI Eeeet Doez Nuzzing!

Hey Guys (and Galz) I have two 8800 ultras in SLI and the game runs better when I disable SLI and only use one GPU.

I am running 4.09beta on a Vista ultimate 64, q6700 oc'd to 3.6ghz a core on water, and EVGA 750ftw mobo, with 4 gigs of Corsair XMS2 ddr 2 memory. I have trackIR 4/pro and all the CH goodies.

Basically, I am seeing "MicroStuttering," when I have SLI enabled. I have tried everything in the NVIDIA performance panel and have seen the best results when I select "split frame rendering," but the stuttering is still there. Its very very very annoying. It is gone when I disable the second ultra and the game plays and looks great. However, I am one of those people that can't leave well enough alone and like to have everything working properly.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks,

The Dreaded Chrystler Le Baron

I've got a pair of 280s in SLI, currently disabled due to instability. In IL2, I wasn't getting stuttering as much as kind of a rubber band effect--50 smooth frames, a skip, 50 more smooth frames, another skip....

Sorry. Nothing helpful to add.

I got a lot of that jumpyness under Vista 64 with 2 8800 GTs with and without SLI. However, the new 180.48 drivers have made things much smoother under Vista 64. Unfortunately, the new driver's cause random IL-2 to crashes. My current solution is to cross boot XP 32.

As for performance, I get a 10% boost under XP 32 and about 3% under Vista 64 using 3DMark benchmark. There is seems to be no difference in IL-2.

Definately better performance with SLI enabled. For what ever reason the newer drivers that have new code for openGL seem to perform slower.

In addition you can get rid of studdering by switching from AFR to Split Frame. I don't know what happened with the new drivers but they don't do well for me. Still using 177.66s and get great performance with 8800GTs in SLI mode.

I do not have sli.But I saw no difference when I had 2 Ati 1300 pros in crossfire mode and a single Ati 1300 pro card.

I think the game has to be written to get the full benefit for sli or crossfire.Although you might get slightly better results with multiple cards.I did not.

Wrong... At the time you were using Crossfire the drivers were in their infancy. There are several modes in which you can run the game under and utilities such as Nhancer and Rivatuner can force settings needed. In most cases with an Ati 1300 you didn't have the horse power to see that much of a difference.

I run 1920X1200 perfect 16XAF and 8XAA with the 4.09b dlls with the terrain distance doubled and I can assure you it doubled my performance adding the second card.

The key is forcing the game to use Split Fram Rendering. For what ever reason the newer version of Alternate Frame Rendering causes a pulsing studder effect.

SLI and CF are a heck of alot more mature now.

I have run many tests with my system in countless software configurations.
SLI works better on my system with the settings I use.
I normally run Il2 at 1920x1200 with AA at 4x and AF at 16. Most of the drivers I have tested benefit from SLI running Il2.
The BIG thing for Il2 performance is your processor/clock speed. It doesn't matter how much power you have for the GPU, you need a good CPU to gain the full power of your GPU. That's the way Il2 works.
I do get an increase in performance using 2 of my 4 cores. That and many other tests have been documented on another thread quite some time ago using the Black Death and Kamikaze as test tracks.

I finally got it to work properly, it still crashes randomly, but I take it that that is normal. I have the resolution pumped up to 2560x1600 with everything maxed and it now runs GREAT!! Just had to tinker with Ntune, Riva tuner, etc.

I can really notice the difference with SLI on or off at these high resolutions, it is drastic.
