In 1959 while practicing for the open ceremony of the new Ottawa terminal building, a USAF F-104 accidentally went supersonic during a low pass over the airport, and the resultant sonic boom shattered most of the glass in the building (including the entire north wall) and damaged ceiling tiles, door and window frames, and even structural beams.

It took almost a year to fix the damage.

This was the first sonic boom I heard.
