Getting closer...

Certainly getting closer but not quite there yet! http://www.biosmagazine.co.uk/rev.php?id=785

Resolution is too small at 1024x768 but hopefully by the time we have BoB it will have improved, anyone tried these yet?

Interesting. The resolution is ok as I have to fly at that res to spot the dots on-line.

the 32 degree FoV it has now is to limiting, you'd hope for something closer to 90 degrees for most gaming.

good to see some companies are still working on those VR headsets, as the technology evolves it might become a good alternative.

Guys/girls..I have one of these goodies.
The VR920 has a PHYSICAL resolution of 640x480 - period

This 1024x768 is a interpolation of that physical res, so it looks smudgey. and you will not see a Spit wing even if it was right next to you !!!

I've already enquired about 800x600 and 1024x768 PHYSICAL resolution from the manufacturers of Vusixs goggles and they are big $$$$$. so don't expect anything soon from this lot.

These things will only work with nVidia cards that use the special stereoscopic 3D drivers.

Just forget them. Nice gadgets, very expoensive and completely unusable, just like 3D shutter glasses.

Who wants to drag a cable around that's plugged into your VGA adapter at the back of the box? Not me.

How you can see the controllers (keyboard, buttons, etc) with a stuff like this?

I agree that 640x480 is very low, but 1024x768 is good one if you consider playing in 3D.

On the other hand I wonder if someone has REALLY tested IL2 1946 in 3D with shutter glasses here. Even in a old-good CRT of 19" is stunning to see all the cockpit in 3D, and to perceive the distances.

But if you are able, as I do, to play/test it in stereo3D in a 1.8-2.0 m wide projection screen with a "cheap" DLP projector, I can't imagine someone don't liking it. It's very simple to describe; you just feel you are flying, you just can feel the altitude perfectly and you just can feel the size of the plane you are flying, not to mention the cockpit detail poping out the screen... Add to that to be able to estimate distances (to runway, objectives, other aircrafts) accurately... Definately shutter glasses (or equivalent system) worth every dollar/euro you put on them.

I'd be glad to show that to some IL2 fan.

And now with the boost to stereoscopy that Nvidia (mainly) and AMD (Ati) are producing, with new drivers, glasses (wireless and recharchable) and monitors (end of '08 beginnig '09), stereoscopic gaming will become more important. I hope SOW:BOB will be ready for it!

I've got all my functions mapped to my buttons and sliders. I don't need to look to press the right ones. I feel it is the same with many of us. I don't even touch my keyboard.

KG26_Alpha 11-09-2008 10:12 PM

"Unable to see the keyboard".

This is going to be the single failing of all VR headsets in the future unless they come up with a VR KB you can tap away on by staring and blinking at it :)
