Dcs a-10c?
 

Don't want to offend anyone with this thread but since it may be a long while before we are playing BOM I was thinking about getting DCS A-10C and wanted to hear from some folks that have purchased.

Phenomenal product but so very different than what we're used to:

1. It's ground pounding, not dogfighting. You want to avoid enemy aircraft at all cost!
2. The challenge is not in flying (easy in the A-10) but in locating targets and learning to operate avionics and equipment.

That probably sounds obvious to most, but I had quite a shock moving from IL-2 FB to DCS: Black Shark.

Given that, I don't think anyone can say DCS: A-10 is any kind of competition to CloD (apples and oranges), but for a complete simulation of a modern aircraft, you can't do better than ED's warthog!

Thanks. I was thinking of giving it a try but wanted to see if most people who play it think it's fun. Since being fun is why I play. I think many were disappointed with Lock On and don't want to make the same mistake.

Better get DCS P-51.

Full clickable cocpit, all system works like in RL according with RL manual, very good flight model included take off, landings, in air handling ( i think one of the best i've seen in flight simulators) and performance very close to RL data.

The only problem is that for now there is no other prop planes in DCS. Maby in the future.

If CLOD planes would be made in the same way... :(

From what i have heard this A-10 isn't just a game. It's a simulation in the purest meaning.
It takes you weeks or months to make progress.
You have to read a lot to get an overview over all the systems.
Currently there is a sale where you can get the a-10 and black shark 2
for 18 bucks. Have to look where it was.

Lock On had it's flaws, but it did get better. I've played Flaming Cliffs quite a bit, and it's actually not bad....if you stick to for example the vanilla Frogfoot or the T-Frog.

If you want one mother of a challenge, pick up Black Shark 2. I don't know how many hours I spent trying to learn to fly that bird, only to have it SEVERELY punish me for any errors I did. Just like in real life. Hell, don't even need enemies, as it's insanely easy to die just through not being one step ahead of the aircraft. As McFly say above me, all DCS-products require a serious attitude towards learning to fly things on max realism. The sim will pull absolutely no punches, and it will be an insane challenge to learn. But when you start getting the hang of it, it will reward you with many, many hours of great fun. Just takes time getting there. A LOT of time...

I'm looking to pick up both DCS:World (which is free) but also all modules for it to give me the maximum amount of aircraft to fly. Just have to get done with my joystick/throttle-build first.

I can highly recommend all the DCS products, have them all.

I have many hours in the A10c, excellent simulator. Easily worth 5 fold what you might pay for it.

The ka-50 is also excellent.

DCS:A-10C is the only sim I fly atm. In combination with the TM Warthog and MFDs it's a fascinating product.

I wouldn't recommend the Black Shark though, because AI sees/tracks/fires through trees. You can't hide from them, but they can from you. This is a no go for a heli sim in my opinion.

Disagree...the KA50 is a blast...best chopper Sim I have ever flown... but I rarely fly single against AI...DCS World is a WIP and will only get better....Have all the modules A10C, KA-50, P51D, the free SU25T and Combined Arms..and will buy whatever DCS puts out... Quality products and a blast to fly... not true it is all ground pounding...there are dogfights to be had...The P51 cannot be hamfisted... it has a sttep learning curve

DCS is to COD, what COD is to IL2-1946 with all sim options turned off, and then some.

Anyway, if you take a look at some youtube tutorials for the A-10, you can see for yourself if it would be fun.

Then you should get it anyway because it's like getting you'r own, real, personal A-10 or a mustang for 40$.

And the P-51 is a history lesson like no other. To see what it actually took to fly these machines undisturbed is amazing. Let alone in a dogfight.

Just might not be fun fun on the first day, or week.
