Squadron AI
I am new to the game and am playing a pilot career in a P40 on the 4.11 patch.
The AI is becoming frustrating through it's buffoonery and I am wondering if there is a better AI patch or AI tweaks to help things along. The issue which has happened twice now is that when I am on the protect bombers mission which demands that you stick to your task the flight leader and squadron does it's own thing. We were in close proximity to the bombers and they called for aid as they are being attacked from 12:00. Instead of moving to help, my flight leader turns around to do another looping patrol of the area and leaves the bombers to it. Then the flight leader disengages from the bombers with about 30 miles to go to the target and heads back in the opposite direction. Inevitably the bombers call for aid but by the time the leader turns us around again we are too far away to get there in time. The most absurd moment came when we finally arrived to the scene of the dogfight 7 minutes late when we should have been there immediately. The leader flew us to a 4 vs 4 fight in which we could make the difference and I am not exagerrating, when we got to 1 mile away from the action he turns us around again and we head for home. If I try to protect the bombers like I should when we get attacked halfway I get told off for not following the leader and likewise if I break off to support the bombers or fellow P39's later on then I get the same response. It is frustrating because often I fly for up to half an hour without any combat which is fine, it is realistic and I accept that but with the AI behaving like this it makes it a waste of time as they don't behave logically and engage when they should. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ways to improve the AI behaviour? |
This topic has been addressed so many times on these forums.
There was one just last week. No... all changes of AI are due with upcoming patches. |
I think the problem here is that the AI is actually improved but it reveals a few holes in how it's logic works. The improvement is that the AI now actually relies on being able to see the enemy to realize that they are there and engage. Previously the AI could see 360 degrees all around and sort of had a magic sense whenever the enemy came into range.
What needs to happen is that if the bombers DO call for help that the AI realizes that the enemy must be visible to other nearby friendlies and flies in that direction in general. I suspect that is actually very hard to do but I'm not 100% sure. |
In 4.12 bomber protection will have priority when AI is on escort mission.
