Confused over ACE setting...

Its obvious that by setting the AI pilots ability to ACE means youre up against an ACE difficult AI. But what happens when I set my pilots ability to ACE?

Lo0n 05-13-2008 08:47 AM

your autopilot ability will be ace?

I have allways thought that setting your own pilot to ACE applies to your whole flight of four planes and your gunners. And probably your AI autopilot.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it effects wingmen and your gunner.

^ on qmb certainly, in fmb you set it per plane not per flight.

Hi

Ace and other settings affect the AI only online.

With bomber gunners it becomes unclear what setting they are on when a human pilots one (drunken lunatic springs to mind).

AI bomber gunners are more accurate then AI gunners in human piloted bomber, I always get back there and get on the guns in a coop as the ai are useless spraying in all directions.

In a Dogfight server its a bit different, ai bomber gunners are more accurate and actually score kills !!!!
I know bomber pilots who never get on their guns and score 80% more kills in DF than COOP.

Offline I have no idea, auto pilot ace etc !!! :)

Some things got screwy over the years with all the updates.

+1

Also in some campaign files Ai squadronmates have some numbers showing their skill.

Confused over ACE setting

In 'Offline' campaigns you can set up your own flight and the opposing enemy flight with either Ace, Veteran, Average or Rookie.
If you set youself up as an Ace, you have to fly accordingly. If you set up your No.2 as an Ace, his (AI) will protect you better than a Veteran (AI) - the secret is to constantly use your leader command list (Press Tab) to get your flight pilots where you want them. This will obviously be a much more comprehensive feature in SOW BOB.
If you setup the opposing enemy flight leader as an Ace, his (AI) will give you a tougher time than an enemy Veteran (AI).

Hope this helps Revi?

Id think... I also havent tested it but I think LoOn might be on to something as well.. I have found it more of a challenge to alter the enemy AI... a few rookies.. mostly average & vets.. with a few aces.. spread out in the flight.. it makes for a more immersive fight to me...

Lo0n 05-14-2008 01:15 PM

yeah that's pretty much it - couple of aces and the rest veterans for the squadron/flight leaders, and greener pilots as the wingmen. better representation of late war luftwaffe particularly, and a bit more variety in terms of your targets evasion and firing techniques.

and i find that setting your own wingman to average means you have don't have to shoot them up as much for kill stealing - they seem less agressive but i could be imagining it...
