Resolution and Dots

Hi, i noticed that clod uses a similar method than 1946 managing the size and visibility of the dots.

for example, 1600x900 dot size 3 pixels.
1900x1080 dot size 1-2 pixels.

im not sure if all aircraft are represented the same way. what it seems after playing with both resoludion is that the one with lowert resolution will have a much easier time seeing contacts.

i know that you probably all know this. but to me its a great flaw. the ideal would be to see the dots the exact same way all the diferents configurations. but suely thats not possible .

how do you manage this issue? do you lower the resolution to see bigger dots?
do you fly at max res like stevie wonder?
how? why?

Hi,

I fly with native resolution, because visual quality is more important for me. It was the same with 1946.

This is an old problem with IL2, i run 1360x768 on my 1920x1080 capable screen, the ability to spot targets is much greater at longer ranges. I will add though that up close it is harder to spot whether a target is friend or foe on lower res screens as the definition isnt as great... so it is def a trade off in some ways.

ROF (sorry dirty words) often use the small plane icon that looks a bit like an "x" at range, this indicates a player aircraft is present and forces you to go and look, though i like this method im not entirly sure it would be applauded in this forum as it breaks from realism.

Yep... this is a terrible issue. I have to run in native resolution (1600x900) as, otherwise, I just can't read the dials. (Interestingly, I have also noticed that, since the installation of the Alpha patch, I get no real benefit performance wise from lower resolutions and, on some occasions, my performance is actually worse the lower my video settings are!) I spend most of my time relying on my squad mates to do the spotting.

I've never tried RoF, so I can't speak with any real authority, but I would think that this plane marker idea could be a break from realism, in an aesthetic sense, but an increase in realism in another way as I'm assuming the real life pilot would see a contact a lot quicker than I manage to so it is a trade off.

What is the native for Clod 1920x1080?

The term "Native" in this case is referencing your screens highest/best resolution it is capable of. ie 1080p screen = 1920x1080

I hope this explains it...

On my 1080p screen i changed down to 1680 * 1050 and i have better fps AND better visibility of dot imo. Greetz, Allons!

No, I was asking about the development resolution... In other words, the game is at it's best (the way it was meant to be seen) at that/what resolution. Anything higher than that native resolution is basically just stretching the image out, anything lower is shrinking the image....it probably says on the box, but I don't have one.

There is no native for this, your perspective changes in game to match your chosen resolution, it can be run in almost any resolution and presume it was produced on machine capable of 1600x1200 or 1920x1080, if not then they were using super old hardware such as 1280x1020 or something.

Just to be clear, there is no stretching when you change resolution unless you choose one your screen cannot support and you use psuedo fullscreen. This would then look as though circles have been squashed or something like this.

EDIT, This is a very quick explanation, does not cover it, sorry for misunderstanding the question the first time Slipball

I fly at 1600x900 on a 1080p monitor, because of a weak pc. Although I doubt I`d fly @native res with IL2 dot system. Other guys could probably run it on 12xx x 7xx just to have better visibility. But this flay is easy to fix, just the devs don`t seem to want to do it.
