Problem running downloaded exes. Any help please?

This is probably the best place to post this as it is not a technical question directly relating to CloD. I have suddenly found that I cannot run exe files that I have downloaded. Stuff like CPU-Z and MSI Afterburner etc.

I get the message - The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

I have done a bit of Googling and it seems it is a registry problem but none of the solutions suggested seem to work. Anything done using the run command and cmd etc get the same message sooner or later.

Do any of you guys have any suggestions?

Redownload them from the internet?

I tried that. Even ones that have worked in the past have same error. Actually the problem isn't just with downloads. If, for instance, I type msconfig in the run box I get the same message so it is probably some deeper issue in my Windows 7 64 bit.

Ok. I think I have fixed it by going back to last restore point. I just had to do it in safe mode to prevent the problem from blocking the restore utility.

Next time try revo uninstaller.

I messed with a mouse editor, in the end I couldn't even uninstall it(Windows gave me all kinds of funny errors(Error 1605, 1628 ).
Checked a few forums, where I read about the above progi. Tried it, worked.
Neat little prog.
