As the topic says. Someone done that in the game, or could it even be done ???

If so, that would be epic! (if so, post vid)

Total Hollywood BS !.... like most of the movie it came from !

Hooves 05-12-2012 08:17 AM

There have been reports of some pretty amazing tactics to break contact, but I dont think any of them allowed for such a quick snap shot on a chasing Aircraft.

But, that being said some pilots were able to make their planes do some incredible things. But this is a Hollywood exageration.

That move can be done in a few space shooter games where aerodynamics and gravitational forces have no meaning, or in the fantasy of movie makers.

It has no however small relation to reality.

A flightsimulation allowing that wouldn't be a flightsimulation at all.

See this video for an example

From my understanding the action is plausible, but the motion is obviously exaggerated.
If a pilot pulls up at speed, the plane will stall making it easier to change direction due to a lower air pressure surrounding the wings. Total loss of respect for Hollywood.

In times of mortal danger incredible things can happen BUT if it is shown as a normal manoeuvre then not good BUT as a once off last ditch "get him off at all costs" then maybe.
At air displays we probably don't see a third of the capabilities of the airframe, they are flown within limitations but in wartime life or death with 30,000 ft of airspace below you,who knows.
Look at the P51 crash at Reno, the sharp move ,huge g forces, maybe at 30,000 ft he may have regained conciousness before the plane reached the ground and recovered.
We weren't there so i guess in wartime extremes happen but Hollywood shouldn't make extremes normal.

AH good find, I didn't watch that series all the way to the end! Well there you have it. I wouldn't be surprised if this is where they got the idea to do it in the movie.

SO I guess its possible, but man can you imagine the G's?
