CCC Not responding. Help!!! :D
Hoping someone on here may be able to help....
The other day CCC suddenly stopped working. I click to open it and all I get is a large white rectangle where it should be and, if i hover the mouse over the taskbar icon, it says "Catalyst Control Centre (Not Responding). I was using the 12.4 beta (Absolutely brilliant until now..... using the "Morphological AA" I was actually getting 10 extra fps in CloD and, without it, it is essentially unplayable..... If only the patch was here, eh?) I've uninstalled the driver, used driver sweeper and removed all trace of the ATI drivers etc. Reinstalled an earlier driver..... same problem. Removed everything again... intalled 12.3.... same problem. Did it all over again.... installed 12.4.... same problem. I've done countless Google searches and tried as many solutions as I can find and nothing has worked. Does anyone have any ideas? |
Can you use a restore point?
Or failing that a recently backed up drive image? |
I'll try a restore point (If I have any lol)... fingers crossed.
EDIT: For some bizarre reason I only have System Restore points for today (Hence utterly useless.). The reason I didn't know whether I had any useful ones was because I was running a dual boot system with XP on another hard drive and I know that using XP can wipe Windows 7 restore points...... but I haven't used XP for 2 months as the drive that was on died. |
Good luck.
If not after your PC does its POST. Spam the F8 button. At that next menu, you may have a choice of loading Windows to its last know good configuration. Worth a shot? |
Cheers.... I shall attempt that. :)
EDIT: Nope.... still no go. I've had this happen constantly since going from NVidia to ATI.... I didn't even know CCC existed until updating the driver from the one that came with the card. lol The problem is that just doing the above procedure always sorted it out but this time it seems determined not to work, no matter what driver I install. Wouldn't be so bad if only that damned patch had come out and I wasn't relying on using the "Morphological AA" trick with 12.4 just to be able to use this game as something more than a pretty Tiger Moth simulator. lol |
Sorry to hear it didn't work.
I have an SSD but only 120Gb. I use Paragon Drive Image to create drive images (backups). I have additonal HDD's one of these is my backups drive. I have a standard activated install of Windows 7: Windows_Baseline I then installed Steam/CLoD, Saitek TQ drivers, G940 Drivers and loaded my profiles. Adjusted in game Keys/Axis to suit. Saved this as CLoD_Baseline. Loaded my Windows Baseline back in. I then installed Steam/Skyrim. Installed Logitech G13 drivers and loaded my profiles. Saved this as Skyrim_Baseline. It takes approx 10 minutes to load each Baseline if I hit snags. A bad Windows update or ATI driver update for example. I just load in the last baseline and I am back to a working copy. Which saves having to re-install everything from scratch. Sometimes, as games progress, or ATI drivers install and all is well, I will just save an additional "In progress backup". Of course, depending on how old your original Windows Baseline save is depends on how many Windows updates you will have to download if you ever need to restore it. Equally, you don't have to bother downloading any updates (and potential problems) if all you do with that particular backup is play whatever game you have installed. Works for me anyway. |
Sadly backing anything up has just never been an option for me..... got royally "fishsticked" by the recession and just haven't managed to find a job since so I not only have no hard drive to back anything up onto but no money to even buy a hard drive to solve that problem. Of course the real stinker is that, one of these days I am hoping someone will decide I'm not "over qualified" or "Too good" for the job and then I won't actually have any time to use my PC anyway. lol
Sucks eh? :D I just can't understand why CCC can suddenly stop working and, no matter how many times I reinstall it, the same old problem is still there....... I would kill for an Nvidia card right now. lol |

Anyway I solved this( i hope to remember correctly) something related with frameworks (Remove all versions of Microsoft .Net Frameworks ). Do you have the latest .net framework installed? anyway take a look here http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-c...wont-open.html hope it help...I solved the same problem with the framework S! |
Also, if the above and nothing else helps, you could eventually try this crazy stunt: Uninstall the driver, ccc etc. and pull out your ATi card, swap it with the old nVidia one. Then install the nVidia driver to make it the primary device. Then uninstall it, swap again and install CCC and the ATi driver again.
Also make sure not to confuse the x64 and x86 version :P Oh and one more thing: if you got a fast internet connection you could try this: Install the Crashplan backup software. It comes with a 30 day "cloud backup trial". http://www.crashplan.com/consumer/download.html So let's say if it takes you 2 weeks to upload all your stuff from your system drive you still have 2 weeks to download it again after you re-install your system. You can ask their live support staff about the procedure: https://crashplan.zendesk.com/accoun.../chat/orTicket Might help |
check and see if mom.exe is running or not.if it isnt that might be the problem.I remember having a simular issue a while back and it was mom.exe related.
also have a look at this http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...f-9b24228b660b i know it says Vista but Win7 has had same problems |
