I just read this and i know (cause I have one) SSD's ROCK with il2 COD. or is it the other way round...

New 330 could change the market

The pricing of Intel's upcoming 330 Series SSD could be the final nail in the coffin for traditional hard-drives. Online retailers have listed the Intel 330 SSD before Intel has officially unwrapped the budget solid state drive.

US retailers listed the 120GB version of the drive for $149 while Amazon UK is listing the same drive for £109.05 due for release on the 13th of April. There are cheaper SSDs out there, but few of them come close in terms of performance. The 330 Series combines a 25nm NAND flash memory process with SATA 6Gb/s interface support to deliver read speeds of 500 MB/s and write speeds of 450 MB/s.

But at £109 for a 120GB solid state drive it is the cheapest Intel-branded drive yet and mean that there will be discounting of other branded SSDs to clear inventory before the Intel drive appears.

Thanks for the heads up! My X-25 G2 is starting to feel old and small so I guess it's time to get a new drive, and put the old one in the media center box... Always wanted to have an SSD there. Still, the must have place for SSD:s is in laptops. You swap the weak link as mobile disks are so slow and get the bonus of less energy consumption, less heat and no risk for damaging the drive when putting down the laptop a bit clumsily...

I bought an OCZ Petrol 128GB last week, it was only 120€ which is very cheap for a SSD of that size in this country. I use a Seagate External Storage 2TB for all my storage needs so no problem if the SSD is not so big. SSD FTW!

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be lookng for a second SSD in a couple of months time to go with my Crucial C300 128Gb. Running out of space :)

This one looks good if it meets the specs and is reliable.

Feedback please from anyone who buys one????

Having just had my 1 t/b back up h/d fail i would be interested in seeing how much more reliable these ssd will be.
Prices will come down in time.

Reliability on most SSD's are high mostly because the lack of moving/degrading parts. Just make sure to NEVER defragment your SSD as it is not necessary and because it will degrade the SSD if you do it over a period of time.

I recently had a SSD fail just out of waranty. An instant and complete write-off.

As always the best stategy for data security is to make sure you have multiple backups of important data.

Cheers!

The likelihood of catastrophic unrecoverable failure of a storage device is proportional to the square of the difficulty of recovering the lost data.

LoL!

I would also factor in the importance of the last item being worked on multiplied by the inverse of the time between the failure and the deadline for completion!
