UBISOFT problem! Won't honor past purchase...

I just wanted to inquire here if I have any recourse with UBISOFT. I purchased IL2 1946 from digitalstore.ubi.com about a year ago. Since then, they have changed subcontractor for providing download/activation of this product.

Recently, I upgraded my hardware, and I'm trying to reinstall IL2 1946, however upon running the game i get a failure to activate because the activation server is gone.

The best UBI support will do is give me a 20% off coupon, which is essentially asking me to buy the same game from them again! Horrible business and customer support.

Now, it's the principle of the matter, not the $8. How do I know I won't just have to buy it again next year!?

Has anyone here solved this issue? I guess I learned my lesson not to buy from UBI.com anymore.

Be warned, 1C. Your publisher/distributor is not doing you any favors!

1946 was the last product I've ever purchased from Ubi.

Unfortunately, Ubi has long since established themselves as sort of the cynical type when it comes to customer service. Many of their recent practices and decisions seem to have the aim of antagonizing their customers more than anything else. Making money is important in any business. However, one gets the impression that is absolutely the only part the decision-makers at Ubi ever think about any more.

I often drive past Ubi's office on 6th street in San Francisco and wonder if anyone has ever thrown rocks through their front windows lately.

...just joking about that, of course! Can't blame the guy just working for the company.

Couldn't agree more - Chris at UBI support has been as helpful as he can be. That said, I gotta blame someone! Can't just roll over and buy it twice! Hopefully Chris will give me his Boss' email address and I can keep trying...

No idea what kind of recourse you have. If there is something in the EULA (user agreement) for the Ubisoft store when you bought the game then you may be able to fight it on a breach of contract. I am not a lawyer and thus I'm not sure if that would help.

As may be the case with many customers... it's likely too much money and time spent trying to get them to do anything about it. To solve your IL-2 1946 lack of a game issue I would say go to the STEAM store where their customer service is at least marginally better and much more consistent and buy it there for whatever the price is... $9.99 the last I saw.

Thanks all,

I probably will get the steam version. I've had good luck with steam, and they seem to be here to stay. Appreciate the tips.

Best,

UBI do not even support IL2 in their forums anymore.

The current IL2 forum banner/logo is some sort of feral rabbit mutant zombie molesting an underage skater chick in a pink miniskirt. It bears no relation to IL2 or aviation or WWII whatsoever.

You will have to copy the IL2 1946 game directory out of the default steam location and add the patches in manually into a location on your preferred hard drive.

Ie: G:\IL2 1946 v4.11m

That's why my links were for versions outside of steam, a less fiddly installation.
