I didn't know that the landing gear strut was telescopic. Now I'm wondering if that is modeled in IL-2.

"Suddenly my engine was spitting and coughing. My heart began to pound as I realized I had been hit, too."

Haha! No, dummy, it was all that high throttle operation with the cowl flaps closed! Haha!

You mean, as suspension or as it retracted? As suspension it's typical of many planes. But on the Jug, the strut was collapsed by a cable as the gear swung up into the wing so the trunnions wouldn't have to be any further outboard on the wing. If that cable failed the extended strut would be forever jammed in the wheelwell.

:D
