Skirmish Co-Op help needed

Hello everybody,

a few days ago four friends and I bought this great game on steam and went - after watching a few newbie tutorials on youtube ;-) to the coop gameplay with the skirmish maps.

At the beginning the missions as such were great fun to us but one issue came up which pretty much screwed all the fun on the long term and most of our group refuses to play this again until I find a solution for the issue.

But now straight to the point:

We are a bit overwhelmed with the tedious amount of work required to get new units.
For example player 3 orders a squad infantry and they are nicely devided between all of our players (in the worst case). While the battle at the front lines need our attention we use a big chunk of the gametime in trying to talk it out who has to give what to whom. Often one of us is so distracted by the battle it ends in "nice" waiting times on the units or in the need to repeat this "who has to give what to whom"... Just tedious...

This game as such is so "thought thrugh", there can only be one reason for our mess: we do it utterly wrong.

So my question to you veterans is quite simple, how do you manage this issue, is there any way (a mod maybe) I can turn this unit sharing off or at least give all units to only one player, who might act as some supporter for the rest of the team who is actively fighting?

I really hope you can help me with our problem, it would be a shame to let this gem of a game down because of this :-(

Thx in advance
Hrothgaar

When I play with a lot of friends we usually agree to only 1 person buying units until we capture first 3 flags, and usually we buy only 1 order of infantry, 1 mortar and then either early armor or at gun depending on faction.

Afterwards, we usually try to micro and find better weapons off bodies and enemy fallen armor. At that point we have people who need supplies for their guns or mortar just buy truck and write or voice chat (if used) who ordered truck. If someone needs extra infantry they usually ask and if someone passes some units to another then thats cool, if not then that person can buy some. As for things like sniper we agreed that unless we are doing great in the mission we have to agree to it. If you ever buy half track such as panzergranader whoever gets it has the job of spreading every 2-3 soldiers to various players.

As for mods, there is only 1 thing you can do in this engine and that is make it all purchases get assigned to host. No other option except how it is currently.

Is there a mod that makes the host recieve all ordered units? That would solve your problem.

The game assigns the units to the players who have the least units. I usually play as the support person and spend my time resupplying, building static defenses, ordering units and assigning them. Since the other players typically have more units than i do, the units all get assigned to me which allows me to allocate whole squads to needy players. It's not perfect, but it works.

Thank you for your responses.

To change something in the settings so that only the host gets the units and work as some kind of supporter / deliverer would help us out greatly!

Does anybody has a link to such a modification or know what to change in the correct files?

This would make our weekend one of little sleep if it works, hehe :-)

I will try to make one, i know someone told me that changing autoassign for the missions to player 5 will force host get everything no matter how many players are playing. However, this also means that you may need to have mod for every mission, its not too hard to do but if I try I will still have to test it.

That would be great!

Even if I need to change something in every mission we want to play its not much of a problem, we are so bad at this game so we only play german (where we know at least most of the units) and one map keeps us busy for hours, to be honest we have only won 3 maps so far on our first weekend, 2 of it were the tutorial missions :-)

If you could figure out a way what to do and post an idiots guide on how and what to change in every mission I will do it myself for all the missions we plan to use ;-)

What difficulty level do you play Hrothgaar?

Hrothgaar 02-05-2012 10:03 PM

@djsatane Any updates on the mod? Did it work? :-)

@accipiter We play on normal difficulty which brings us a nice balance between loosing the maps and winning but anything higher would be... erm... a bit to much I think ^^

No I havent done anything with regards do it because I have been busy doing some skirmish overhauls for carentan where u play as uk and learning things. I will try to do it sometime in future but you can really get used to playing with the way things are now, we do it all the time with 8 players on heroic difficulty, key is to learn to micro what you have properly so u dont have to keep buying things at high rate.
