Using iPad as extended touchbuddy touchscreen monitor for CoD/IL2! Really Cool!!!
Some of you guys might of heard of Touchbuddy, well I got it working on my iPad to use virtual cockpit touchscreen controls in CoD (and IL2 too!) with Air Display.
It even works with nvidia surround or AMD Eyefinity! A nice guy called Buccaneer has already created a profile for a hurricane. Im going to try adapt it for the spit! ;) You can control the following with his default profile. (room to add a lot more too!) Controls ----- Gear Up Gear Down PITOT Heater Fuel on/reserve/off magneto on/off engine start slow running flaps up flaps down bail pause esc instrument lights reflector sight open/close canopy pressure head heat nav lights gun camera Directional Giro Decrease Directional Giro Increase Course Setter Increase Course Setter Decrease Views ----- External Chase Flyby Friendly Units Friendly Aircraft Friendly Vehicles Friendly Ships Enemy Units Enemy Aircraft Enemy Vehicles Enemy Ships ----- Detailed Map of the Channel ----- Fraps controls ------------ Screen shots https://public.blu.livefilestore.com...ri1.jpg?psid=1 https://public.blu.livefilestore.com...ri2.jpg?psid=1 https://public.blu.livefilestore.com...ri3.jpg?psid=1 https://public.blu.livefilestore.com...ri4.jpg?psid=1 What you will need if you want attempt this is; 1. iPad 1 or 2 (or iphone/ipod touch too - less resolution to play with obviously and you'll need to make your own screens) 2. Air Display for iPad by Avatron from the app store. (Its a bit expensive for an iPad App at $10 but it has so many more uses than just for gaming! :) 3. Air Display for PC from ipad.avatron.com 4. Wireless network at home 5. Touch buddy from > http://www.touch-buddy.com/forums/lo...ks.php?catid=1 6. CoD Profile from touchbuddy forum > http://www.touch-buddy.com/forums/lo...N&pp=10&page=2 7. Optional! Touchbuddy toolkit 1.3.4 > http://www.touch-buddy.com/forums/lo...N&pp=10&page=2 A couple tips. You'll have to map the CoD keys to match the CoD profile in the readme. You'll also need to change mouseuse=2 to mouseuse=1 in the conf.ini in your 1C softclub directory for the touch screen to work while in the game! Ill take a video in the next couple days of it in action. :) |

I've already worked on the profile and scaled it from 800x600 to 1027x768 to match the iPad res and today Im going to re-task those switches and add some more! ;) |
OMG! You are totally AWESOME!!!
I was about to buy the Asus Transformer Prime. Will this work with the Asus or do we have to use the Ipad? Also How can we get a working app of this? When can we get a downloadable file for us to use this with COD? Love your work! |
Would love to get this working, just need to find out a bit more about this touch buddy app. For starters? How does it connect to your pc? and how do I download the templates onto the iPad. It should make sense soon, but at the minute it just seems like witchcraft!

1. Native On machine 2. Server mode 3. Client mode I'm using it on my pc in native mode. The Air display app for ipad/iphone adds an additional extended screen to your PC over your wireless network you run this on both the iPad and pc to create an extended desktop. Then you launch touchbuddy in local native mode and drag the control panel to your extended screen on the iPad. Set CoD control keys to match the readme for Touchbuddy for the touchscreen commands. Change mouseuse=1 in the user copy of conf.ini in 1c softclub folder to enable the mouse/touch screen to work outside the CoD game window. Technically you could use touchbuddy on another normal monitor and just use the mouse, and you can use it in client/server mode and run the client app on a laptop or 2nd PC. Launch a game and then just use the controls either with mouse or touchscreen. When you use touchbuddy with the Ipad it is still running on your PC, all you have done is extended your desktop with Air Display to create an additional wireless touchscreen monitor. I used to use touchbuddy with an old 15" touch screen hooked up to laptop for 1946. Thats why I researched how to do this with the iPad for CoD. There are far more detailed control panels available for IL2 1946 which work in exactly the same way. You can also use UDPSpeed with Devicelink on IL2 1946 to see realtime virtual gauges. There is also work going on now by another guy here on the forums to get IL2 virtual gauges working as a native app on iPhone and iPad! Look forward to when he finally releases the beta of that! Hope that makes it clearer. Ill try take a video tonight with the iPhone 4S in HD so you can see touchbuddy/Air Display in action on CoD. |
