The importance of bigger monitor?
I am currently using a Samsung 19 inch monitor, and am thinking of getting a BenQ 24 inch monitor (G2420HD, ppl say it is ok for its price)
I mostly play sims (CloD, RoF, old IL-2) and sometimes FPS (Red Orchestra, Arma2). Do you guys think it is worth getting? Will it improve my gaming experience much? |
My 25 inch ASUS is one of the best investments I've made yet toward my sims. You will love it.

Hi,
i have the same monitor (BenQ)....no problems,i think 5 zoll bigger=much more fun!! |
remember that higher res takes a bigger bite out of your frames.
I got an 27 inch (monitor) and can't hardly remember what my previous 20 inch was like. I could never go back. Haven't someone stated that higher res makes the plane dots in the distance come out later than on lower res?!? |

il2 was made thinking of a specific resolution, lets assume it was 800x600 (wich is false but i cant remenber the real one). and lets comapre with a 2560x1400 monitor. a plane will appear as a single pixel at 10 km for both this monitors, the difference is that a pixel at 800x600 is far bigger than pixel at 2560x1400, so it made easier too spot for a lower res monitor. not sure if this is in clod. |
I'm playing on a 32" samsung 100Hz TV, and love it!

Thanks guys, ill be getting it tomorrow, cant wait :D

No point in going above 1920x1200 resolution. Anything more will degrade Clod's performance.

Getting a bigger monitor is one thing, running your games at a bigger resolution is another thing.
Take an old 15" monitor: normal res for gaming 800x600 Take a bigger 21" monitor: res for gaming 1600x1200 A lot of people think that it doubles the resolution but in fact the resolution quadrupled. You can get 4 800x600 screens into 1 1600x1200. This also means that your CPU/GPU has to be a lot more powerfull to put out the same performance to fill that bigger screen. I know that back then, my computers always struggled to get me a decent 1600x1200 FPS. If you go for 1920x1200 monitor, you go even bigger then 1600x1200 and therefore need even more CPU/GPU power to match that same performance. You could always turn down the res to crack up performance but LCD images look poor when not viewed on the native res. LCD's then have another problem because there is more stutter noticable if your FPS below it's refreshrate when you have VSync on (on CRT's this is almost not noticable due to motion blur). But then... if you compare the image quality from an LCD/LED monitor to an old CRT... LCD's are top notch... |
I love my 27 inches but if I had 1920 instead I wouldn't be here complaining about fps. :-)
Too bad the game looks so ugly when not in native res. |
