Laptop Upgrade Advice Needed
Laptop upgrades. My stuff is shown in the sig line. I used to build desktops but I am clueless when it comes to laptops. I wonder if CPU/GPU can even be replaced/upgraded.
I've been told by the laptop manufacturer that I can not go above 4GB RAM. I don't have a grand to sink into a new desktop like I was hoping so I need to find a way to get some more juice from my laptop. Thanks. |
Something like this might work.I have not tried it nor seen any reviews.

Asus G74SX
Check my Sig - Just got it about a month ago! though the frame rate is between 15 - 25, seems flyable (been busy playing others games on my laptop)!..... only time/ patches will tell if the frame rate will improve!
EDIT: I did some research about upgrades too..... these days its possible, but finding the right laptop and parts is difficult! Not forgetting that you will void your warranty! Ebay is the only place ive found new/ spare parts for laptops! For example! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-1-5GB-...#ht_688wt_1139 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Intel-...item3cba360ed1 |

Only a couple company's allow GPU upgrades, if it was a ASUS ACER ect you could forget it but Eurocom, Sager and I thought Clevo did but its expensive and I'm not sure its worth it money and trouble. I'd ask the question on the Cyberpower PC forums because I'm not familiar with these guys. http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/forum/fo...2c45cca72z3c5f |
Thanks yall. Robc I kinda had that "here's your sign" moment when I hit submit. I should just go to the Cyberpower website and find out myself from the source. Haha thanks for working with me anyhow. I'll be looking into it. This laptop is a Clevo so I might luck out and be able to upgrade my GPU. Would be awesome if a bios update would let me upgrade to a 4 core as I hear that is currently the way to go for CoD. Not sure how, if ever I'll be able to get past 4GB. I think 8GB would be an excellent upgrade.

I have that same CPU in my notebook and was looking at getting something like the QX9300 on ebay but I use that notebook less all the time and with all games not using multiple cores I didn't bother.

A quick question
Hey guys I just had a quick question about a friend looking to upgrade his laptop's graphics card. He has an Alienware Mx 15 with an i7 q820: 8 cores @1.73-3.06 and a 5850m graphics card. He was considering putting in a 6970 but he wasn't sure if he would see a noticeable improvement in graphics. What do u guys think?
Also would anyone recommend for him to do it himself? I have taken apart a laptop before and it was a nightmare. I had to remove a lot before I ever got to the mobo. I told him he should pay someone else to do it if he decides to do it. Whats all of your opinion? |
Ask dell & you tube it
Not sure about ATI cards... you could always ask the company...
As for taking apart the laptop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7KUTPbDX1Q Might give you a better idea about the graphics card location (i dont know, didnt bother watching them all) Cheers EDIT - Skip to the last minute or two... shows the graphics card! You'd need to check what pci connection the card/ motherboard has (again, best bet is asking dell or goggling) |

In my opinion you'd be wasting your money if it's for clod. I've got an ASUS G73S which is a pretty powerful gaming laptop and it will play clod but when you concider the money i spent it isnt worth it. Personally I'd build a budget pc based around a mobo that can be upgraded to. |
