Clouds :(
Hi all,
I play on atag server quite alot and noticed they had clouds on. Id never played with them on before and noticed a massive fps drop whenever they are in view, meaning if i were to look at an area without any clouds i get smooth play then drop fps again when they come back into view. So i need to know if there is a fix for this or if not if its possible to force them off withput being banned or labelled a cheat. I have tried lowering the settings but doesnt seem to have any effect. My specs: i know isnt great but runs fine other than these poxy clouds! Win 7 64bit 4 gig ram 2.8 gig dual core cpu 9600 gt 1 gig nvidia |
Ram ;)
It is not that much expensive and level things up quite easily |
Things might be different on different hw configs but I can tell you that I just upped my ram from 4 to 12 without gaining a single frame.
I made a ramdrive of 4 GB but that didn't help either. So in my experience 4GB of ram is plenty. |

Fly higher :P
to be honest I have a pretty good rig but the clouds and smoke kill my system. I have reduced the resolution to improve my ability for spotting enemy aircraft online and as a consequence get much better frame rates in cloud. |

i lowered my res a notch and this helped, but id prefere they fix the clouds or have a setting to lower the detail or whatever for us "lower end machine" people.
thanks for the help |
Considering the beta patch, we wanted to see if cloud performance was better/worse/ or the same. Seems to be the same. So we turned them back off (only a slight sprinkling of clouds here and there)

It is a well known fact by now that, no matter what hardware you are running on, clouds have a massive impact on performance, I do dare say it's the same for everybody.
So while upgrading little by little is generally an advisable thing optimisation of cetain things in flight is still needed and the devs, I am sure, are aware of it and working on it. |
when i'm flying the clouds show thru into my cockpit. Anyone know how to fix that?
