Advice to ATI users who use Vsync and have poor framerate
From a couple of catalyst's version ago (11.6) I noticed some drop in performance. I use an headtracking and as many of others users I have the V-sync activated. Today I wanted to see if I was wrong about poor framerates I noticed, and played the blackdeath track. All was well (fps capped at 60), till the scene at 00:48, where my fps dropped at 30. What the.... why my fps dropped so much I thought? Disabled the Vsync, and the fps where raised at 59-58 at the same scene, so I checked if my triple buffering was enabled, and yes, it was. Dropped the old atioglxx.dll from the 11.5 in the IL2-1946 dir and tried again with Vsync enabled and triple buffering. This time the fps where fine, capped at 60 then 57/59 like with the vsync disabled. The end of this story is that I think ATI is messing the opengl support release after release, so check if you have my same problems and use the atioglxx.dll from the 11.5.
