Need help, spitfire with very low rpm on full throttle

Hi , title says it all.
I am flying campaign now and all other aicrafts are faster than me even on full throttle.
I dont use ECM but my spit is very slow compared to my wingmans and even to my oponent. i am as slow as bombers.

Where is the problem can anyone help?

Actually this is a bug. Add CEM and leave off the temperature / heat affects and you can do it. Trust me CEM isn't that hard you will get the hang of it quickly.

Are you sure you havent got it set to coarse pitch?

Troll2k 06-10-2011 09:04 PM

I thought the AI managed prop pitch and mixture when CEM was turned off.

Sorry I wasn't thinking, and haven't flown much without CEM.

Most of the info you want is here:

Basically what's happening is the CEM switches to coarse throttle after take off. You need to fly as level as possible when this happens to pick up speed/energy and then it's very important to maintain that energy throughout your flight - hard turns/climbs in the Spit will bleed it off and slow you down. Turn slow and smooth, climb slow and smooth and you will get used to it. As others have said in that thread, do try the CEM, at least for single prop planes (the twin engines are a bitch lol, but the singles are pretty easy) - I did, after encountering this 'bug' and have never looked back. :)

There is speculation that only the Spit 2a has the correct flight model, and that the Spit in the campaign is slow. The game FM's are being worked on every patch so I'm sure if this is the case, it'll get fixed soon.

CEM= complex engine management, meaning you have to take care of your engine.

NedLynch 10-04-2011 03:56 AM

Complex Engine Management, option in the realism panel.

I recommend you read up on it, use the search function to get more info, it's really great once you learned how to fly with it turned on, including overheating of your engine. Try it, learn it, once you get the hang of it you'll never want to go back flying without it.
