We've picked up a new group of signals

I remember exactly when I fell in love with dogfighting and it was when the guy in star wars mentioned this phrase. I was very young age at the time but even then I had the BOB film in my head when I was at the cinema watching this film. I am a huge star wara fan but for me it's the space dogfighting I love, not the lightsabre stuff.
My fav moment is when wedge comes in head on to take out the tie fighter on lukes tail over the death star. Whenever I play BOP i want to cover my team like that

The best parts of the Star Wars films are indeed the dog fights, I was so glad when at the end of A NEW HOPE (death star one) i saw a Y-Wing fly back to Yavin with the Millennium Falcon and 2 X-Wings, simply because i love the Y-Wing, its like a futuristic Hurricane :D a work horse!! Yet can still do the job.

But for me..the film that get my blood going and makes me want to get on IL2 ASAP is indeed the BATTLE OF BRITIAN.

A true classic. The scene that i like in that one is where the Poles are on a routine training flight (even though they were trained pilots anyway) and the keep saying "repeat please" as they sneak off to engage the HE III's. A great scene.

Just talking about that film now makes me want to get on BOP and do some dogfighting over southern England with the BOB sound track playing in the back ground.....

Oh, me too. The X-wing/Tie Fighter PC game series are included in my favourite ever games. I'm always wishing they would make a new one but then i'm afraid they would make it all arcadey and Clone wars cartoony.

I still play Xwing alliance now and then but it does look pretty dated. I can imagine the grahics of a proper new x-wing game would be almost movie quality, that would be awesome huh?

Foz, the Y-wing was always my favourite too. And your right about work horse, have you seen what the Y-wing looked like when it was new before the rebelion stripped it down and modded the crap out of it?

I think i prefer the Y-Wing as it is :D it looks a bit weird the old "delta" way. Keep your X-Wings, B-Wings,etc....

Give me Gold Squadron and some Y-Wings........

I love that Y Wing too. Only thing that bugged me is it has a rotating gun on it that looks perfect for rear gunnery. The rebels missed a beat by making it a one man bomber. A rear facing co pilot would have nailed Darth and his wingman in that trench with ease.
I noticed in Revenge Of The Sith during Obi Wan and Anakins Assault at the start they had cover by Arc fighters. Those Arc fighters do have a rear gunner

Edit found this on Starwars.com
"The initial BTL-B bomber was a double-seater craft with a forward-facing pilot, and a tailgunner in a rotating bubble turret. The Rebel Alliance maintained two basic types of Y-wings, the single-seater BTL-A4 and the double-seater BTL-S3. In the two-seater S3, the gunner sits facing rear, controlling the turret-mounted ion cannon. Both pilot and gunner are protected by a pair of Koensayr ballistic ejection seats that automatically eject both crew members. The A4 features Guidenhauser ejection systems like their X-wing counterparts."

Looks like the Yavin planners had the wrong machines for the death star attack, they needed the BTL-B!

Think of it this way. Whats the first thing that would get removed from WWII bombers when they needed to save weight for better performance or bigger bomb payloads? The heavy manned rotary turrets!

And then there is this... Y Wing BTL-B is the B-17. Y Wing BTL-S3 is the B-29 ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5U0_...layer_embedded

XWA was and still is a great game. I'm not sure if you've heard of XWAupgrade?? If you're rig can handle it I'd suggest you go to http://www.xwaupgrade.com and start down loading all the mods. You'll also have to grab the basic installer and it adds a ton of life to a game that let's face it looks pretty dated.

These guys have done a stella job and it turns the craft from pretty average looking annimations to what they look like in the films, with in the graphics engines capability anyway.

I grabbed them all and started the game all overaging they way it should have looked first time around. It does suck the resources of an older system but SW on the PC never looked so good.

It was X-wing versus Tie fighter on the pc that started my love of dogfighting, though i think the original star wars movies had a lot to do with me buying that game. If they ever try for a console release of such classic titles as x-wing alliance or x-wing versus tie fighter i would buy it in a snap.

XvT was the first game I played online, first squadron I ever joined, first online mates. All through a 56k modem... eugh..

It was a great game though, remember the original BoP? Balance of Power.. Attacking the SSD in BoP with your B-wing was superb.

Then XWA came along, I wish I still had the game, I'd download those mods and take a trip down memory lane..

Whilst I like the Unleashed games Lucasarts have done lightsabre battles to death, it's about time they did an XWA or XvT for this generation.
