IL2 Sturmovik 1946 under Windows 8.1?
 

I tried searching for this, but couldn't find an answer. Years ago I bought the IL-2 Gold pack / Pacific fighters. Since then, I've changed computers and I'll be running Windows on a Mac using Bootcamp.

Will IL2 Sturmovik 1946 run under Windows 8.1? I'm installing Windows today and I'm ready to buy the game but I won't if it won't run.

I'll probably wind up getting BoS too, but for $60 I think I'll wait until there's at least a summer map and more scenery to fly over than just snow.

Install outside of the default Program folder/s

Just create a folder call it IL2 1946 or what ever you like and install to there.

If you cannot change the file path on installation
make the default install then copy and paste the contents to the new folder you made.

This is necessary due to file protection

IE: C:\IL2 1946 v4.12.2

I bought it yesterday from GoG and the installer created a folder outside the Programs folder by default.

It seems to be running just fine, but I'm having a small problem with my TrackIR4, and once I get that sorted out I can spend some time flying. :grin:

I've been forced to use a Win 8.1 computer for over a year now.

I've had no problems with running IL2 as described above.

IL2 will load happily from the "apps/charms" page, although I avoid doing so since I vastly prefer the desktop interface ported over from Win 7.

The only issue I've had is that I recently purchased a set of CH Pro Rudder Pedals that WILL NOT WORK on my computer under Win 8.1. Other folks have reported intermittent issues with CH products not playing happily with Win 8.1.

It's probably a hardware problem / lack of drivers rather than an issue with Win 8.1 itself, however.

Been running WIN 8.1 for a few months now. No problems at all with my CH HOTAS.
