Screen glaucoma caused by the map box!

I've got a nasty little problem. When I'm in the cockpit and open the map box, then close it, where the map box was is totally erased, with a blank grey ghost of where it was.
The truely nasty part is even when exiting the game, then restarting it, the ghosted part of the in game is STILL ghosted out!
As it is now I have three map box sized permanetly ghosted out parts on the screen IN ALL VIEWS. One is bang dead centre of the view.

WTF is going on? Any ideas?

See a post further up with similar issues. I had the problem and the solution I got was: "Press alt and right click window with mouse you should be able to close it then. ".

Oh I can close the map box, but when its gone where it was is a blank grey box exactly the size of when the Map Box was open. And nothing I do can make the blank square go away!

IIRC, in the custom properties section for the windows, there are two lines where you put numbers. bg for background color or something like that. make those numbers=0 to make the window invisible. the higher the number, the greyer/darker the windows.

Do it on the box, that's what I did.
