Engine management
Are there any good guides for managing the engines on the Hurricane and Bf-109 ? I find the manual a bit lacking. For example, what would be the Hurricane's optimal manifold pressure and RPM settings for combat ?

"I find the manual a bit lacking" lol. The manual tells you that engine managment is a complicated issue and then kinda glosses over it, this combined with the Hurricane mixture lever bug etc makes engine managment a very difficult issue esp for newcomers to the game.

No worries, I've also got the ferry pilots' guide for the Hurricane but this doesn't cover combat (obviously) only the handling of the aircraft.

Do not count on that manual! It will not work:
1.) We do not have 100 octane fuel, so the Boost Values in the document are out of range, as already stated. 2.) About temperatures: 125 is (for some reason) already the absolute maximum, no 135 or 150 degrees. |
Ah thanks for that...forgot the temperatures page for the Hurricane Mk.I;

Now that's useful, thanks Moggy!

Just for the hell of it, here's the ATA (ferry pilots) engine limitations for the Hurricane Mk.I (there may be some settings from the Hurri II & IV left over). Also note, that Hurricane Mk.I's being ferried were classed as non operational and were filled with 87 octane fuel.
