Luthier/Oleg would you consider this ...
... terrain generation engine for a future incarnation of IL-2?
http://www.outerra.com/ Most of the samples are run using a Core 2 Duo and 8800GTS http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_BoU4btzqsC...00/apache2.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-U45V0ub9CN...r-r7g30b70.jpg http://outerra.com/shots/l008.jpg There's talk of a demo on the way however they're still ironing out bugs with ATI cards. |
fractal is nice to generate tons of random mountains quickly, but when it comes to a real map you still have to do it yourself, we should have the same water though (DX10 rendering)

as for the map they import real terrain data and 'map' the entire planet. *edit* also its a non starter for this game. this game isn't even officially launched world wide they're not about to consider swapping in a brand new engine after 6 years developing this engine. |

it is just alpha until someone uses it as their game engine though. many many tools needed to make a game around it are needed and the devs of outerra have said as much. it is however really amazing. |
This was mentioned regarding Cliffs of Dover back when it was Storm of War.
A couple years ago, at least, it was this program or something similar. It is impressive that they were running those demos on a Core2Duo and an 8800GTS. |
