SFS files

Just started checking the game and saw something that I need to ask you about.
I see the famous .SFS files in Clod.
Weren't these the kind of files that got hacked in 1946 and the whole mod/cheating story started?
Anyone who could check whether these files can "open" as "easily" as then?

I may be totally wrong, don't kill me, I'm just asking.

yes I noticed it, but maybe SFS is just the file/extension name, and perhaps it has nothing to do with the compression method used.
