Reflector gunsights - the coolest practical thing ever

Hey, I've just found out that in the British fighters, you can use the reflector gunsights as they did in the war!

You can adjust a wingspan dial under the reflector to your desired targets wingspan in feet (e.g. 74ft for a Heinkel 111, 32ft for a Messerschmitt 109)

Then you adjust a second dial for the desired range (in hundreds of yards)

What that does is sets/ moves the horizontal bars on the gunsight, so that they would frame the enemy aircrafts wingspan. When you get the e/a that close enough, then you know that it is at the desired range!

So when hunting emils, you can preset the gunsight to your gun harmonisation range for maximum effect!!

Don't forget as well, that there is a switch off to the right of the gunsight (in the Hurri) that turns on the gunsight reflector bulb for a clearer sight image.

In all my years with RAF flight sims, I have never known attention to detail to this level with the gunsights.

Now going to check the German Revi gunsight, to see if that is adjustable too.

I swear this is the most practical easter egg ever!

p.s. no such luck with the Revi as yet

I am a bit lost with the gunsight in bf-109 as it is "out of range" I mean I have to keep pressing rudder left to get the crosshair to be seen. Is there some trick to this, I mean can I move inside the cockpick so that I will have the crosshair in the center of the glass?

Sorry guys I haven't played IL-2 Sturmovik and am completely a newbie to WWII flight sims :)

Devastat, there is a special 'loosen harness' key, that moves you closer to the gunsight, and in bf109s, it also centres you behind the gunsight.

p.s. I haven't mapped this myself yet, because of the language barrier!
