When did this all start?
Now that we have a release date for CoD, I was wondering what the total 'wait' time will have been. Does anyone know when this project was first announced? It would be interesting to see that first post and people's reactions to it.

I seem to remember it being around the time the first add on to Forgotten Battles was released. March 2004ish? |
the original Il-2 Sturmovik startet in 2001. Since this date it never left my harddrive ;-)
This was the start of addiction. |
Ubi once made a grand statement on their Il-2 forum in about 2004-5, where thay gave official announcement of BoB with a completion date of 2006. I used to have a text file of it saved somewhere for laughs.

Oleg announced it at the flight sim show in Birmingham. It was the year the National Motorcycle museum had a fire so the venue was moved to the hotel nearby..

BOB was first announced by Oleg in 2004 for a tentative release of end of 2005. BUT Luthier was expanding his Pacific Fighters addon and need help finishing, so Oleg's crew dropped most work on BOB to help. Ubi announced BOB in 2006, but that came off the rails when they decided to continue doing addons for IL-2. Work was delayed until IL-2 1946 was finished in what 2008? Although they did have maybe a guy or two working on SOW thru that long period.

Picture of the 2001 IL-2 box. It was one of those big boxes that games use to come it. I still have mine and it looks like I bought it yesterday. Two patches were added then came Forgotten Battles.. Old IL-2 still looks good and would be fun to play but there is no trackir support. You would have to use your tackir as a mouse to get function out of it. It's really too bad.
