Please go to the Ubisoft forum for discussions about publisher / DRM?
As it has nothing to do with the actual game that Oleg (or 1C) can answer about, can you guys please go to the Ubisoft forum if you must discuss these matters? Please? It's so darn boring to hear the same whine over and over...

cant a mod or admin do something about that?

I have been guilty of this too, but usually i try not to post my usual diatribes ( :-P ) in threads with a different topic.
That being said, it's an important issue for many people. For some it's as important as things like the flight model, because a not so user friendly DRM might prevent them from enjoying said flight model, etc. Long story short, if it stays in one thread i'm perfectly fine with it and i think it should be allowed to continue. It might have nothing to do with the actual game, but it might prevent you from running it if the implementation is bad. Then it suddenly goes from having nothing to do with the game to having everything to do with the game. Also, the argument could swing both ways and some would say "why do i have to put up with said software when it has nothing to do with the game and it gets cracked anyway everytime? just use a cd-check and be done with it". ;) I'm not saying it will happen like this, in fact most indications point to a one-off online activation which (lacking any other info at this point) is more or less a good compromise, plus i trust that after dealing with a big publisher for many years mr Maddox might have signed a "smart" contract that gives him certain liberties with his final product, relegating Ubi to the role of distributor and not the owner of the title's rights . So what's all the fuss about you will naturally ask. Well, it's just that many people are distrustful towards ubi after the silent hunter fiasco and honestly, who can blame them? No matter what happens, this issue will crop up time and again and it will be discussed until we know what is actually going to happen. Best compromise in my humble opinion is to have a dedicated DRM thread to discuss this until we get some more concrete information from the publisher. This way, instead of picking fights in other threads and derailing them, whenever someone mentions DRM we can link him the dedicated thread and contain the discussion there. Oh, and if you find it boring that also gives you the option not to read it while the rest of us are debating it. Pretty good solution all around, don't you think? ;) P.S. Maybe we can use this thread: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthr...m+unacceptable |
From a official on german UBI Forum.
Online connection only for Activation, no permanent Internet Connection needed. http://forums-de.ubi.com/eve/forums/...409#1801049409 So no Problem for me |
Absolutely excellent post and bloody good point. This forum should be for discussion of 1C's software, namely the games. Whilst I may have my opinions regarding the other subject, Mazex is quite right to point out it is for discussion on Ubi's forum; if you wish to make a point, that's where it will be most useful. It certainly is bloody tiresome to wade through the same old crap here.

Kodiak, thanks for the link. I know what they said but i didn't have an actual link.
The things is, a lot of people don't know and want to ask. This has been the main forum for this game the past few years and we have quite a few newcomers (i see a lot of people with very low post counts the last couple of days) who were probably told that this is the place to get some of their questions answered. Also, even "long-timers" like us don't know a lot about how this one time activation will work. Is it a limited activation/deactivation scheme or not? Does it have optional automatic or manual patching or is it forced autopatching like RoF? Etc, etc, etc. Stuff like that is totally unimportant for some but very important for others, so it's good if people know enough before they decide to make a purchase. Better to have enough knowledge and make an informed decision than being disappointed and making bad publicity. A disappointed customer can be more damaging than no customer ;) That's why i proposed that since people will keep asking no matter if we like or not, maybe it would be a good idea to have a dedicated thread for it. Which brings me to Novotny's point. Novotny: You won't have to wade through it if there's a single, dedicated DRM thread. Just one thread, not taking over the entire board with similar threads, just containing this discussion in a single one. Now, if someone saw a dedicated DRM discussion only thread and they decided to click on it, then it obviously means they are interested enough in what is being said in there and they have no further ground to object. I can understand not wanting comments about DRM popping up all over in irrelevant threads and derailing the discussion, it's not wanting comments about DRM at all that i object to, because as long as people have a concern to voice you can't prevent such comments coming up, day in and day out. Let's keep it in a sticky thread and everyone's happy  |

When half of the threads here end up in: 1. "I hate Ubisoft for reason x,y" 2. "I hate the title, why not call it x instead" 3. "I hate the DRM for reason x (even though the final DRM solution is unknown!)" it get's rather tiresome as 1 and 2 are just useless discussions as it's a fact and will not change no matter how much we cry, and number 3 is not something that Maddox games or 1C has something to do with... |
