Ribbon Turn

Ive showed a few people this turn and wanted to share it. Im guessing its already well known as something else but i don't see anyone doing it. This works best at manston airfield in CTA. fly over the airfield as if you are crossing a lowercase T at a very low altitude and at or above 720kmh < after a dive in the 109 G-10> directly over the runway quickly throttle right down, gear down, roll and turn flat out keeping the low altitude. not too low as some room for error is needed, the aircraft should 'sinking' near the end of the turn, maybe some WEP is needed at the last moment, the only throttle used. if done right the plane should be right in line with the runway and low and slow enough to land within a second, or immediately, depending on how well you know your plane :) Its a lot more effective i believe than landing traditionally as you make a harder target. Im itching to get back to the game :)

I forgot to ask the question.. is anyone familiar with this turn?

The next time we are on lets do a CTA again. I saw what you were doing a few weeks ago, but from my perspective you were just landing quickly. I would like to learn it. I has to beat getting hammered on a traditional approach.

Hi bezshumniy, happy to read you!

from what I unterstand from your description, this looks like a "male" way of landing, often use in real life on fighters (warbirds or jets).
You "just" have to combine a (very) high speed entry in the pattern, (very) high G's break beginning just above the overun, no downwind leg, and a high AOA (angle of attack) continuous final turn. No stabilized parameters, no stabilized and straight final, and speed always decreasing from the break to the landing...
As you describe, the last 5 seconds, before your wheels touch the strip, are a bit "touchy". The way you know your plane allows you to land perfectly :) but also to break your gear, or your plane...:(. Sometimes needs a few seconds on WEP (or afterburner, in another world), sometimes full iddle all turn long...

So for the recipe:

360° turn beginning above the overun,
high speed entry, speed always decreasing, not any second of straight flying,

and a lot of practice to appreciate the fun and the tactical advantages !

Hope to watch you soon doing this ;)

lol just don't try this landing style on realistic or sim, it won't end well.

Grislawski: ill try remember.. i dont get online often but this weekend im free to go for it. remind me if you see me online :)
Pitpat: Ill have to give that one a go, 360 degrees you say? mine is 270 turn as you know so that would take a bit of getting used to, you`ll have to show me :)
RoboticPope: ive only done it on realistic, havent had the chance to try it in sim and in arcade its too hard to get the right speed, easy to go 1100kmh in the dive and overshoot the whole thing. im terrible at everything in arcade.

Ah ok, sorry i'm not good with kph. I was asuming it was maybe around 600mph and arcade type speed. A quick check tells me 720kph is actualy 450mph. This will be a very high G turn out of the dive but I guess in a 109 its just about do able in sim too. Try it in a FW190 or Mustang though and you'll be sorry lol.

the turn isnt directly from a dive.. i level out before i cross the t. i tried the mc202 and i was hopeless. mustang? im flat out staying in the air in one of those :)
