AMD Radeon HD 6950 to HD 6970 Mod

This is not really aviation related, but since so many users here have AMD cards, this may be of interest to them:

S!

Good to have the dual BIOS if you pork up the card ;) I got my 6970HD yesterday and must say I am happy with it and no issues at all :) In IL-2, AMD's weak spot, playing The Black Death compared against my previous 580GTX results were very good, and I even used way higher FSAA on my 6970HD :D Resolution 1920x1200, Perfect graphics, Stock 4.10m.

Min(580/AMD): 32/26FPS
Avg(580/AMD): 55/53FPS
Max(580/AMD): 70/70FPS

Mind you I used 8xQE + edge detect + supersampling AA on AMD vs 4x FSAA standard(no supersampling) on NV ;) So the more you slap on FSAA the better AMD shows it's teeth. In RoF I have everything maxed out and still memory usage is only 50% vs nearly 80% on the NV offering :) So some headroom there too.

So comparing that for a few more FPS with the 580GTX and a over 120€ higher price tag over the 6970HD..go figure ;) PhysX is not an argument that sells for me as I do not play shooters where it is mainly used. Also the strange ring you get on water in IL-2 with NV is non-existent with AMD which was a BIG surprise to me. Anyways I can wholeheartedly recommend both 580GTX and 6970HD, both offer a lot of performance in any game :) So now seen both sides of the fence and can say both brands have good cards :)

Hi,

i also bought Amd 6970 because it has 2GB of memory. It should work better in Eyefinity, but now i have FPS drops.

IL-2 runs okay, but sometimes screen freezes and FPS drops to 1 or 0.

Has anyone else this kind of broblems?
