HUD de-clutter

First the disclaimer. This is NOT a mod but a change anyone can do with NotePad. I strongly advice you to BACKUP the ORIGINAL file before proceeding!

So, you tired of seeing the power settings, diaper change and whatever cluttering the right side of your screen? No worries fellow IL-2 pilots, the remedy is closer than you might realise and VERY easy to do as well! Let me show you..

First navigate to the IL-2 folder and open FILES folder. Inside you should see a folder named i18n. Open it and a lot of files named xxxx.properties pop up there. Find the one named hud_log_ru.properties and open it with NotePad for example. Remember the backup first!

Now on the LEFT column are the game generated events/messages and on the RIGHT column what is displayed on your screen. Simply DELETE the text from RIGHT column you do not want to be shown. Do this to all those that you want edited and then save. Start the game and a lot less HUD messages for your convenience.

I think setting nohudlog=1 in conf.ini does the same thing, but of course this is an On/Off setting, you can't select which messages you see or not.

yeah nohudlog=1 turns off all messages. Editing the hud_log_xxx.properties for each country changes what RHS hudlog messages appear allowing you for example to keep radiator messages but delete landing gear ones.

You can do the same with chat, instead of turning CHAT off completely edit the hud_msg_xxx for each country and remove the chat you do not want to appear (hud_msg is english, hud_msg_de is german etc).

An alternative for chat is to turn it off completely and replace the sound files for for languages you do not understand with your own language. Thus for example an Englsih Speaker flying for the LW can hear messages in English and no longer needs teh Chat translations.
