How to win a dogfight game in 4 simple steps ( for dummies, lol )

Hello Everybody! :-P

DISCLAIMER:

I would like to add my contribute to the IL2 game community by writing a simple guide for new and not yet skilled players who are willing to win the DOGFIGHT game, in SIMULATOR MODE, on PS3.

Those are very simple and direct SUGGESTIONS and GAME HINTS that not involve any complex combat tactic or flying know how, but MIGHT BE helpfull to new player to have instant fun, and start developing their own combat skills, and hopefully brings more people to the sim game mode.

I have had more than 1000 match on IL2 so far, but I can't and i am not writing a ww2 plane combat manual, just some consolle game hints that i think might be usefull, so, enjoy and, have fun!

Preparation:
If you are not sure what plane choose, try starting with a good performant plane, highly suggested plane are:

- Spitfire MK IX, best weapon, ( will make easy the point 3 ), elevator settings: miuns 6 block down

- LA 5, elevator settings, FULL SENSITIVITY

- LA 7, best flying performance, ( will make easy the point 2 ), elevator settings: minus three block down

At the beginning, flying a different plane might be harder.

Game settings:
- Disable the cockpit view and enable full hud.
- In game option, turns brightness at max value.
- Controller: PS3 in game controller can be configured in several way. A controller configuration that allows you to move the camera around easily is strongly suggested.

STEP 1 - SPOT the enemy
99% of the time the enemy will respawn ABOVE your current height. Keep opened your radar (map), point the nose of your plane to the red dot on the map and LOOK UP!
When the game begin, every player will be at the same height, so, probably you don't have to look up.

You spotted him:
Once you spot it, WEP and climb straight toward him AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, and start following him getting on his tail.

Where the enemy is?!?!

If you can't spot him after 5 or 10 second from the respawn, then, start doing something! Because probably enemy is chasing you. Do not keep flying in a straight line, start turning and keep looking until you can see it. Help yourself with radar again.

STEP 2 - PURSUE the enemy
Once you found the enemy flying unaware in the sky, start pursuing it with no mercy, never break off chasing, do not give the enemy time to think! Spotting enemy quick will help skipping this step and take you to Step 3 faster. Knowing your enemy plane flaws will help.

I can stay on his 6 easily: Great! skip at the next step

Enemy out turn me: He's flying a better plane than yours, or he is just a better pilot than you. So it's time to improve your flying skills by playing more PS3 :-P

STEP 3 - KILL the enemy
Get close to him and pull the trigger when you feel to ( Luke, use the force! ) . Remember to lead the shoot. Shooting and leading ability will improve game by game. Spitfire have very accurate and strong weapon, high rate of fire and good tracer too. LA have big cannons but slow rate of fire, require better aiming than spitfire.

STEP 4 - repeat Start again from step 1 until the game end and.. you're the winner ace

P.S.: Skilled pilot please don't feel "offended" by those simple "rules of thumb", I know you all have a very personal way to fly and fight, those are not intended for you :) I've discovered that this game is great fun! Enjoy it to the full! And remember... rules can be broken! eheh

I'm guessing this is so you can "see" through the blackouts. This makes me glad the xbox never got the patch. I have my brightness 3 bars up from bottom and can see ok at night. if I put it full max the world is a horrible wash out of colour, I would hate to have to fly like that to avoid being at a huge disadvantage to other players. What's the point of having blackouts if everyone negates them with the brightness volume. Really the game should have handled the blackouts like il2-1946 does using a pure black 'patern'
that thickens over the screen as you lose conciesness so you really can't see (or control your plane if you completely pass out).

Sorry for the little rant there. That is good advice from vdomini. I would add in step 3, In a suprise attack when you think you are close enough to fire, get closer still. I like to try to get my plane so close that the enemys map my dot will be hidden underneith their plane icon. From that range a one second burst is often all you need. This is the key to being able to get a good amount of kills out of one ammo load in limited ammo games.

My full HD television is pretty dark, setting that at full brightness just make the world looking better and more realistic, but it might been just a "personal" settings, i shouldn't put it on the guide maybe :)

1960s HD input?? Dude you are stinking on drugs! :o ...well, ok, actually drugs and the 60s go hand in hand...but in the 60s having COLOR was a BIG deal. saw the Beatles ( in B&W) live from Liverpool via "satellite" on the Ed Sullivan show...you couldnt even tell who was who because the image was so grainy. our portable video game system..... was a freakin etch-a-sketch!! HD, 60s, LMFAO!!! the first hand held LCD calculator didnt come out until 1973..and the most popular was the texas instruments SR-10 . until then we used a relic called a "slide rule" <<<< google it & you will laugh your @$$ off (but i do have 2 of them from school)...then...sit and ponder this .... the engineers used those "relics" to get the first rockets into orbit and back!! YES, they did have a computer...that was the size of a small house ... the laptop ( or desktop) you own now, has 1000 times the power than than that one did! most of the everyday calculations of the rocket and the orbit was done by SLIDE RULE and HAND. Shepard and Glenn (not to mention the russian cosmonauts)...were braver soles then we can ever imagine..... 60's HD?? FM radio didnt hit my area until 68. thanks for the chuckle VDom ...you actually made my day...and that my dear man, is by no means a simple task! and dont give up the flying lessons! once you are done with you're single engine land ticket ... get tail dragger and acrobatic time. trust me....you will LOVE it! take loans out if you have to to make it happen...you will never regret it.......

Are you drunk or what? Ehm, something i don't understand. I think YOU have to give up on drug man. Or maybe to late, your brain already messed up? Hard to tell...
Okay, i am not english, english is not my mother language and probably my grammar sucks... and i fear i have to improve it more because we have communication problem here.
Your message says the opposite i was trying to communicate at hurricane, obviously joking.

What the hell... i have WRITTEN and you have QUOTED:

"No hdmi input lol"

I will write it again... read carefully and slowly please: "NO HDMI INPUT" that's mean that OF-COURSE-IT-DO-NOT-HAVE-IT.

DO NOT HAVE IT.
Do i need to write it bigger?

I do not need technological history lessons from you, even because this is not the right forum. And, since i don't know you, you don't know me, you don't now my age, we never met and never get friend and probably we will never be please keep calling me vdomini. No offense.

by the way, that's the vintage piece i have:
http://www.radiobakelite.com/public/...uso_Sapper.jpghttp://blog.iso50.com/wp-content/upl...50x401_web.jpg
It is an original Brionvega Algol, I like the design and it suit my living room bookshelf very well.

But we are going off topic.

I am not giving "FLYING LESSONS", this is a game, i was trying to give some GAME HINTS for helping new users starting playing dogfight in simulator mode. Full stop.
If you don't like this thread, simply ignore it please, do not spam it, flame it, or talk about 60' drugs and go off tipic, thank you.

Please keep further comment related to that topic, or avoid posting more off topic noise.
This is a public forum, but that not necessary mean we HAVE TO write replies at any thread posted.

Your english is fine vdomini. That was a rather errmmm 'High' post from bobbysocks, quite unlike his usual posts. He completly missed your joke and 'lol' and thought you where anoyed that your 1960's vintage tv didn't have hdmi lol. Then I think he was mistaking you for someone else who is actualy taking real flying lessons. So just a misunderstanding on bobby's part due to a little drink I would guess lol. I wouldn't take offence vdomini.

By the way is that a scart socket in the back of the tv? in 1960? no can't be can it? too early for scart. Well if it is at least you could connect your console with the RCA plugs lol
