Game disc flaw
 

I have to replace my copy of BoP due to a hairline crack in the centre of the disc which has rendered it useless. I think this happens when the game is repeatedly pressed onto the stud in the case until it eventually fractures. This is the third time this has happened to me. Is it just me or has anyone else had this problem? They really should make the plastic less brittle or alter the design of the stud. From now on I think I'll store my games in a cd wallet.

Also I have a pattern of brush mark lines radiating out from the centre of my discs. is this a warning sign that the PS3 drive is about to fail?

Sorry to hear that. I have never had a disc crack on me just by inserting it into the case, and none of my discs have scratches on them. I've never heard of that.

what kind of stud do the blu ray cases have?

it may be a sign that the lens height isn't right. There could be something scraping the disc.

Blu-ray cases are pretty shockproof. But considering how much data is on a blu-ray disc, it doesn't hurt to treat it like a vinyl record. If you're old enough to know how to handle a vinyl record...

Thanks for your responses. I bought a new copy of BoP today for £25. The cracking is a mystery. The case studs vary vary from game to game.

The disc scuffs I think were caused by my daughter's careless handling of disc which has spread to all the other discs.

And yes Kozzm0, I have a vinyl collection dating back to the early 80's. :)

I managed to clean off the disc smudges. Hopefully it hasn't fouled the drive to much. Kids eh?

My Bop disk leaves my ps3 so rarely I havnt had a problem with the case clip. I bought the blu ray box set of harry potter at Christmas and films 1 and 2 jumped all over the show. That was my first hint my blu ray drive was failing. If you start getting skips on films be prepared for a failure

i miss vinyl...even the annoying hiss of the needle riding the groove. sigh. I have had more bad things happen to my CDs via wallets...but then again maybe i am just rough on stuff like that.

Its the Ying Yang push here design of clip isn't it. I hate that kind of dvd case. If you hear a loud click when you push the disk back in don't use that case if you are going to be regularly taking the disk in and out again, in time if the publisher has used a cheap quality disk (505? You bet its cheap) the disk center will crack. I find cases that have the four arrows forming a cross design of clip to be the best. If you press the center when putting the disk back it makes no click at all. I switch my cases around so the new games i'm playing more use the cross design case and the games I hardly play anymore get given the yin yang cases.

edit: don't know what the bluray case clips are like. But the same applies, Clicking when replacing disk = BAD.

They are bad, I've lost 2 discs to em... Now I always push the clip down as i'm putting the disc back in so it doesn't 'click'.
