Free flight "ideas"?
Hi guys, was wondering if any of you had any ideas for free flight, mini missions for example??
We played one last night where we had 6 or 7 of us flying HE111's from france to England to bomb RAF Hawkinge, with one guy flying as 109E escort. Generally we formed up at game start, flew to France then turned round and headed for Hawkinge. We had one guy (pope) as the lead bomber and we followed his lead and orders. When he dropped bombs we dropped bombs. He was the boss :D we had the 109 free roaming as the escort. En route from France one of our formation collided with the lead bomber (pope) taking them both out, since i was the third in formation i assumed command and led us to Hawkinge, i got us to the target without any real probs but i dropped the bombs late and missed the airfield thus making everyone else miss to :( i take full responsibility. The general idea was to see if we could do it. Naturally we'll have RAF fighters to try and shoot us down, but we just wanted to see how it would go without them at first and it seemed to be ok as lnog as we communicate and dont clog up the radio frequency with crap haha. So the idea basically was - german bombers fly from france and bomb hawkinge and the fighters provide escort while the RAF tries to intercept at least half of the bombers befoe they manage to bomb the chosen target. Must say guys, seeing the formation of HE111's and the 109 head towards the cliffs of dover looked incredible. Was a really good game. So does anyone have any other ideas we could try? Cheers |
P51s and B17s coming in on Berlin, with a 109 scramble?
HEs and 109s approaching Stalingrad (is that a map?) with LA's/IL's defending? Something else I thought might be fun to try also: a strike game with just I-153s and Po2s lol |
Yeh, take some nice screenshots so those of us who would like to participate, but can't because we're on the other platform, can see :D
Squadron of Me-262s would be impressive. Or Po-2s/ I-153s at night over Stalingrad, the "Night witches" :) |
How about an invite?

A few of us Brits have enjoyed some success in free flights to, most notably robotic pope, myself, jacked, evangeluse, a few others who are not on the forums. It makes for some good games and involves alot of skill and concentration trying to form up on someones wing and stay their for the duration of the flight before trying a formation landing somewhere (usually manston). We should try and creat our own "missions" and get scores etc done. |
i've been trying to come up with some war games for free flight and ATC games, i think one of the guys in our squad made one a few days ago
As far as free flight goes i wanna see some He 162's do some water skiing :D |

Me draux and pope were flying the comet the other night. Landing it on sim etc and flying it in formation. Was tricky. Cant say we managed to get it on the sea though without crashing lol |

I enjoyed the free flight formations too! Quite like the one you started the thread with and may be an idea for a recreation of the BOB. Do any of the strike maps have airfields or landable areas? I suppose it could be possible to organise a small Team of Spits and Hurris on the gound and a team of Heinkells with Bf's in support crossing from the edge of the map.......Spits and Hurris scramble as enemy formation crosses coastline. Axis must outnumber allies and battle ensues....Hurris after bombers, spits engage BF's and Bombers go for their strike targets. No scores just the experience......limited ammo, if a player runs out of ammo, gets killed or crashes they return to a set location on the map and freeflight untill the battle is won or lost by the ever decreasing number of participants over the combat zone.............just a thought!

Well with Soviet planes, you could have some I-16s and I-153s scrambling in Italy, acting as if you're going up in Southern Spain, guarding a Republican city from incoming Nationalist 109Es and Stuka's? (They'd have to be the B-2 Stukas to stick with some authenticity.)
In Stalingrad, you could act out the first couple months of the battle flying Yak-1B's over the city, guarding it from He-111s and 109F4s? |
