White Cliffs of Dover, England. My Pics BoB Related.

Hi all,

During this summer, I visited Dover and The White Cliffs. This area is Battle of Britain related. I highly recommend a visit. There are no fences to protect you from a 1,000 yard fall over the Cliffs (300 meters in European language:cool:).

Cliffs.

Thanks Leit.

Yes, the White Cliffs of Dover have always been a threat to European invaders for the past 1,000 years. Dover is the nearest point to Europe and is of course a magnet for European invaders.

This is a WW2 British song about the White Cliffs of Dover. Sung by the Forces pin-up girl Vera Lynn.

<a lot of nice pictures>

Sorry, but you are not correct there. 1,000 yards is 3,000 feet, 1,000 feet is about 300 metres. Neither of which is the height of the white cliffs:

Is the music of the song "Somewre over the rainbow" in the film "The wizard of oz"?

leitmotiv 12-18-2009 12:39 AM

No, "Over The Rainbow" (1939) and "The White Cliffs of Dover" (1941) are two completely different songs written by different people. There is some irony in "White Cliffs", if Wiki is right---it was written two Americans. The Special Relationship in action.

The truth is, us Yanks are merely misplaced Brits. There is really no Irony at all.

I must be getting old..."The White Cliffs of Dover" by Vera Lynn makes me misty.

P.S. Very nice pictures Avro! Brings memories of some reenactment events at Dover castle back to mind.
