Ideas for new multiplayer modes
 
Lately I've found myself getting a bit bored with the constant fighter V fighter action we get in Team and dogfight modes along with the boringness of strike mode. With sim CTA mode being the only mode really needing any tactics to win, this is the mode our group of friends plays most. But even after a few games of this I feel I want a change. Usually when i'm host I try to switch the weather each time to change it up a bit (this isn't always appreciated by the others when we find it almost imposible to see each other or land lol sorry guys). What the game really needs are new modes. Now I know this probably won't happen in BoP but maybe for BoP2??

So what idea's do we have for new modes? multiplayer and co-op.

I already read this one from Foz in the new planes thread.

I heard sky racing being mentioned also.

I'd like to see something like a "protect the VIP" mode where the game is a best of 3 or 5 and each round 1 player from each team is randomly picked an their plane is replaced by a Transport aircraft which needs protecting so it can land at your airfield.

Another mode which would promote more high altitude action would be a "recon" mode where there are a number of targets on the map that need photographing at high altitude. Both teams fight to take photos of the same targets then have to bet back to base and land without being killed or crashing, to drop off the film before they can go out to take more photos. The team that has the most photos developed wins.

I'm sure you guys have many cool idea's that are even better. Lets hear them.

Escort the bombers would be cool idea, half of the team is bombers half is fighters, the other team is all fighters (so yes the odds are against you). Your bombers have to reach their target zone, and you lose a lot of tickets every time a bomber goes down, while the other team gains tickets. This would force people to actually protect the bombers to win instead of going lone wolf. Players controlling the bombers can use their turrets, and maybe they can drop bombs on some bonus targets along the way or something to keep them entertained and to score some extra tickets.

I had another really cool idea in my head the other day, I'm smacking myself in the head now for not remembering.:neutral: If it comes back to me I'll be sure to post it.

sounds like a plan! could easily be made into DLC at a later date providing the game still has an active community.

could you not make some of these game modes yourself? Obviously it would only work with people on your friends list, But he it goes.

All these examples will be 4v4

VIP: Set up a CTA game (a map where there are two airbases), and get half the people on A, the other half on B. One player on each team (chosen by the team members) will chose a slow moving bomber, such as a He-111, and this player may not fire his guns. The objective, to land you transport plane safely at the enemies airfield (full stop) before the other guys. Do a best of 5 so everyone gets a chance at VIP, then the tie-breaker (if nessecary) will be chosen by the team.

Tag: Set up a dogfight game, and select a person to be "it" from the start. Only the person who is "it" can shoot, to make it somewhat fair. If this player shoots down someone, that person is "it." The person who is it at the end of the game is the loser. This could be quite fun if you set boundaries, like you can only stay inside Dover Harbour, or you may not leave the Berlin area.

Survial/Team Survival: Pretty self explanatory, last person/team alive wins.

Well, that's all I got for now. :)

Could work but -

HE111 and other big planes with gun positions, the AI will automatically fire on an enemy.

Wait, transport planes had a little defense in terms of MG's anyways right? So that mode should work fine right? Just make it so the HUMAN controlling the plane can't shoot, but the CPU can.

In general yeah transport planes had little if any defence, but...if a human is controlling the plane (flying it) then the AI will shoot from all the gun positions on board! so the only thing to do would be control the gun position, but then the AI would still shoot from the other ones. It would be bloody hard work hahaha. Unless the throw a dakota (C47) in their to use?

Yea i can see these game modes working.

Its just a matter of getting enough players to take part.

i quite like the TAG game idea, should make it quite fun indeed :grin:

I think once you go to gunner view, you take complete control and the AI will do nothing.. haven't actually tested it though, so correct me if I'm wrong.
Nice ideas on the rest of the games though. I especially like tag, even more so if it's in a really small area :).
