What the hell has happened to the Bf-110's lengendary rate of climb??

It is well documented that the Bf-110 had a phenomenal climb rate when compared to the Bf-109 E, Spitfore II, Hurricane and other single engined fighters during the Battle of Britain.

In other flight sims, in the past, that have included the Bf-110 the most common evade tactic was to point the nose straight up and hit the throttles.

This was the common evade maneuver employed by actual Bf-110 pilots in combat.

Also, in BOP, the acceleration is non-existant and the Bf-110 flies nowehere near the true 293 MPH in level flight with WEP as recorded in actual test flight data.

Maneuvering wise, the Bf-110 handles pretty much as portrayed in literature and in other sims. Power wise it feels like a winged Harley-Davidson.... fat, sluggish and lathargic.

It isn't just the P-51 and Fw-190 that have not true to life characteristics in the game, though players have focused more on these than noticing some of the other mistakes in the game.

Hopefully a patch will appear to fix things.

Someone needs to do another speed test on the 110, I'd like to see what the max speed is in game, and how it compares to real life.

Imagine the Me-262, but rather a large body and jet engines. It has twin prop engines, and a skinny body. That's what the Bf-110 is like.

yes, I've flown it. ;) What I was wondering os what it's actual top speed is in game, and how far off it is compared to the real life flight model.

I will research the actual speed of the 110C (it is a C model isnt it?) and then will take the plane up and compare speeds etc and see how it handles.

Unless panzerganate knows off the top of his head the speeds it should be doing. If poss (from memory or research mate) do oy know the speeds it did at -

roughly 1000ft
roughly 5000ft
roughly 10000ft
roughly 20000ft

i will take the in game model up and post max speeds at the mentioned heights :)

I managed 232 MPH in level flight in a simulator game this evening with WEP after accelerating (slowly gaining momentum more like) from 290 MPH in 30 seconds.

By comparison, the Blenhiem IV (real top speed 297 MPH) gains speed a lot quicker and it weighs a lot more.

Peformance wise, I'd expect the Bf-110 to at least have the same rate of acceleration as the Japanese Gekko does in "Battlestations Pacific" or the Bf-110 C4 in "Blazing Angels" which is pretty much how a Bf-110 should perform.

I dread to think how a P-38 Lightning would be portrayed in the game, if the way the Bf-110 isanything to go on.

Panzergranate 10-26-2009 01:27 AM

I'm going by what Airfix stated in the Bf-110 C4 model kit.... 293 MPH at sea level.

FOZ_1983 10-26-2009 01:30 AM

Mate you really cant compare a BoP 110 to a BSP geko lol, they are two different planes in two different games.

I will take the 110 up and do some speed tests at different heights. Could take a while, so i'll post the results on here when im done. You will prob be asleep by then so when you come on tomorrow can you tell me if the speeds are accuate enough etc. Cheers

So far I've managed to just burn out the negines, even from dive starts, just trying to push past 260 MPH.

In IL-2 FB the Bf-210, which uses the same DB-605 engines, flies as it should do, according to historical documentation.

The FB Bf-210 optional version with the 50mm. L60 FlaK gun in the belly out performs the BOP Bf-110 C4, which isn't quite what it should do.

mattmanB182 10-26-2009 01:59 AM

And the DB-605 is definatly no slouch of an engine. I did not know it was also on the 110. I was thinking only on the 210 and the later 109's.
