Borrowing some info I picked up from Soviet Ace I believe, their wings weren't very strong, so they couldn't carry them.

Well, it's not that their wings weren't very strong. But it's because they had GREAT roll rates, and carrying bombs etc. completely destroyed their roll rate. That's one of the reasons none of the Russian planes have guns in the wings. Is so they can roll better, than those with guns in the wings.

Also, the reason they don't have bombs (which I think the Yak-9T should since it's a tank destroyer) is because like Haitch said, they're fighters. And Russians weren't really into loading their fighters with bombs and rockets.

They tested it with Yak-1, but found that it did ruin the performance which they needed to stay about the 109s and 190s in certain performance areas.
