Time period of 150 octane P-47? (Now with DGen bugs!)
So I picked up a copy of Battle Over Europe, and I've been tweaking it into Il-2 1946 (It was released for Il-2 FB, and never updated to '46). From Baugher's P-51D/K page, I believe it's reasonable to allow the P-51D-20NA in any spot that the P-51D-5 is available, but I'm having more trouble determining when the P-47D (Late) comes in.
To the best of my understanding, the P-47D (Late), is just the P-47D-27, using 100/150 octane, instead of 100 octane fuel, but I'm having trouble figuring out when that transition started, and ended. I've turned up some interesting bits, such as 115/145 being purple, but 100/150 being a different colour, and on Baugher's site the R-2800-59 is listed once with a power of 2,300hp, and later as being 2,535hp, which seems to match the 100/150 power version having close to 'M' model performance (2800hp), and some allusions on Wikipedia to it becoming available in limited quantities in "late 1944", but that's about it. I can't say exactly when the 150 octane was incorporated into the P-47, but mid to late '44 sounds about right.
I think the P-47 late is a fair representation of this, but there were also short leaps in improvements made through out '44 that eventually contributed to the P-47D-30. They introduced a newer supercharger which might've also been in conjuction with the new octane. The D-30 was the most widely produced variant, which tells me that maybe they had reached a platue in its developement once it was refined for the newer octanes. The P-47M had significantly better horse power, but appart from that, they also made minor weight reductions where they could. It was intended to be a full time fighter. I've read that eventually the D-30 variants recieved many of the upgrades of the M and were labled as D-40s. I think there can also be a lot of confusion surrounding these varinats because they were introduced in short succession from one another. Thats my take on it any way. Bill |
I'll call it September then.
New question is, how does one add it to a dynamic campaign, and what is it's unique ID? I had thought it was "P_47D" since that is what the skins dir is, but when I added that into the planes list for that campaign, and select it, my computer give a mighty BEEP, and displays a great blank for the mission map. Any thoughts? |
You might have to add the 1944 to it, so it would read "P_47D, 1944".

I just tried it. With the 1944 added on, it doesn't even show in the planes list. It looks like "P_47D" is the right aircraft name, but that there is something else goign wrong with the campaign.
