Hurricane. Photos from Shuttleworth Museum, England.
Here's a few photos that I took last week from my visit to the Shuttleworth Museum at Old Warden, England.
The museum also has an Anson and a Link Trainer. The Link Trainer was perhaps the first flight simulator? http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps489c13f3.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps88ee386d.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps80f95894.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psfa185757.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps89abafda.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps601bd623.jpg The Hurricane here is a Royal Navy WW2 version. Sea Hurricane, lovely stuff. Hope you got to touch it. ;)

Hi MB,
You ought to post these over at SimHQ: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.ph...raphy_&_Vi RedToo. |
I was tempted to ask if I could sit in the cockpit. It sounds daft, but I was a bit star struck and couldn't find the words.

Here's a few more from the day.

For those unaware, every aircraft is flyable and does! (Except the Link Trainer, of course).

Is that the same museum that has the 'Shuttleworth Collection'?
We went there on a school trip when I was at school. At the time I think it only/mainly had biplanes. Very nice they were though, and it was a great trip. I'm sure a lot has changed since then though (1970s). I ended up taking home with me a 1/28 scale Revell Spad XIII, which I had enormous fun building. Cheers |
Yes, the same place.

A few photos from today at Shuttleworth. I was driving past and had to take some photos!
A Hurricane with a bicycle. Looks like a Larry screenshot ;) http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psuppxvrg6.jpg A Miles Magister. A couple of days ago I spotted these two Hurricanes on the airfield.
The Hurricane on the ground is from the Duxford museum a few miles away. The Hurricane overhead is the resident Hurricane at Shuttleworth. Later that day day, both flew as a pair around the airfield at low level. A joy to behold:grin: http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psy65aehcc.jpg Best Regards, MB_Avro |

A new resident at Shuttleworth!
Hawker Hurricane R4118. This aircraft shot down five German aircraft during the Battle of Britain and is fully airworthy. Here's the story of the restoration: http://hawkerrestorations.co.uk/_ima...aeromar05.html http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psrw6jeyvg.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psrusgd5fa.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps7cswtibh.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps9krsshwp.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...pstrzxfgjm.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psatx587sz.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psw6lsi6dh.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps2dlnyn4h.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psdf9dmnsl.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...pskbtcgr6n.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...pst6ebg2iw.jpg Best Regards, MB_Avro |

Thanks for the pics Avro, fascinating to see all the details like that, and actually flying through the air for real as well.

Here's a few intimate shots of the Museum's Battle of Britain Hurricane R4118 as shown earlier. Plus a few similar shots of their Spitfire V AR501 undergoing an overhaul.

A few more photos. There is a thriving aeromodelling club at Shuttleworth and they fly regularly. The Heinkel 111 is interesting. There's an unusual passenger onboard!
Also, note the unusual tin to collect the oil leaks from the Gladiator. Perhaps it adds to the flavour?? http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...pspctwzebc.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psibadosvu.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...pstpnnpev3.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...psarznrbrq.jpg http://i885.photobucket.com/albums/a...pses9womil.jpg Best Regards, MB_Avro |
