Browning M3

Hello,

Is there ANY plane in IL-2 1946 that uses an improved version of .50 cal, the mighty M3 with 1200 rpm instead of standard M2? If no, is it possible to add it as an option to for example P-51D (like in Korea, where old Mustangs were rearmed to M3s)?

I can't speak for what Daidalos can do, but I know that the guys at sas1946.com have done this as a mod for the P-80 and probably others. You could look there if you're into mods.

The fact that they have a mod for it makes me think it is probably not found in the stock game.

From what little I could discover the Browning AN/M3 wasn’t standardized until April 1945. They didn’t stop M2 production until late June 1945.
I found mention of some 2400 M3’s being produced before the wars official end but for the year 1945 war plane production was less than half of 1944’s output. So those 2400 M3’s may not even have made it into aircraft for that year except perhaps the Lockheed P80 Shooting Star.

I could see a '1946' scenario (given that we have one in the game, which the last commercial release of the sim is actually named for)... and if one wants something a bit more plausible than the stock campaign there is always 'Operation Unthinkable'...

So I could see this being legitimately added.
