This version 4.15 is not compatible with previous versions when playing online. For compatibility when playing over the network, the server and the game must be the same version.

Attention: Version 4.15 is intended to be installed only on top of the merged version of the simulator (FB+AEP+PF+46) updated to versions 4.14.1.


Additional information for installing the add-on version 4.15
(Please read carefully)

The version 4.15 for the game "IL-2: Sturmovik" has to be installed only on top of the update version 4.14.1.

In order to install this add-on, run the file IL2_415_MULTI.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.

Please note that this add-on is impossible to install over standalone Pacific Fighters.

Content of 4.15m

New Flyable Planes (including new added cockpits):
- Dewoitine D.520, 1939
- Ju.52/3mg4e, 1937
- Ju.52/3mg5e, 1939 (Seaplane)
- He.177-A3, 1942 (Tail gunner's cockpit)

New ground objects:
- Artillery tractor “Voroshilovets" (USSR)
- Update the 3D model of the GAZ-M1 car
- Various camouflage options for Bulk Carrier, Tanker and German MFP barge
- Update and fixes on texture for all objects in the Car section
List of changes:

Updating the Java version:
- The biggest change in recent years in the development of the IL-2 Sturmovik game is the update of the built-in Java VM from version 1.3.1 to Java8. This change allows the game to run better on modern operating systems and make better use of the limited resources of the game engine more efficiently.

Updating the Launcher files:
- Also updated the executable files for launching the game - il2fb.exe. The installation includes two versions of the file - with console support and without support (GUI only version). The files support advanced game launch options, including the support for mods. The file type can be selected when installing the patch or replaced manually by taking the necessary file from the “EXE” folder.

Sound related updates:
- Another notable update in the new version is the rewritten sound libraries.
Together with third-party sound wrappers, they allow you to use them on modern operating systems (from Windows Vista to Windows 10) audio positioning technologies such as EAX 3.0, EAX 4.0 and EAX 5.0. EAX 3.0 allows up to 32 audio channels, EAX 4.0 up to 64, and EAX 5.0 up to 128.

Unfortunately, starting with Windows Vista, 3D sounds positioning technologies do not work with IL-2 Sturmovik without the use of third-party wrappers. The 4.15 patch installer includes 4 sound wrappers:
Creative ALchemy – for Creative sound cards, supports for EAX1.0-EAX5.0.
DSOAL – Open-source application for any sound cards, support for EAX1.0-EAX4.0.
DSOAL_XP – Open-source application for any sound cards, support for EAX1.0-EAX4.0.
IndirectSound - application for any sound cards, support for EAX1.0 and EAX2.0.
The use of sound wrappers returns to the game support for 3D positioning of sounds, makes them three-dimensional. The correct operation of the wrappers depends on the version of the operating system and the type of audio equipment. In addition to the presented variants of wrappers, there are others.
- Changed game sound settings window.
- Added a number of sounds for external models (whistle of the wind, the opening of the canopy).
- For sounds in the cockpit, the number of sounds from bullets and shells hitting the aircraft has been increased to 5. The type of sound depends on the caliber of the weapon that caused the damage.
- Removed the sound of "tire braking" when an aircraft appears at the airfield.
- For turret weapons, update the position of the sound so that the sound moves with the turret.
- Expanded set of available sounds in the cockpit.
- Aircraft with windscreen wipers have 3D positioning of the sound of the wiper in the cockpit
- For the MBR-2 aircraft, there is a new sound of opening the canopy, plus its 3D positioning.
- 3D positioning of inside-specific sounds (so far only on He-177).

Arming panel:
- Displaying a 3D model of an airplane in the preview window is performed more correctly. Now the appearance of the aircraft with various weapons options fully corresponds to the appearance of the aircraft in a working mission.
- New possibilities for rendering skins and 3D models when choosing weapons options (example of use: Ju.52/3mg4e aircraft).

Full Mission Builder:
- Fixes in the full editor keyboard settings window - the settings of the second keyboard shortcut could be reset.
- Add an option to the context sub-menu to change of the army of the selected group of objects.
- The aircraft overview tabs now display the specified aircraft armament (missiles, bombs, torpedoes, pylons, etc.)

Network missions:
- For airfields of the type "Test runway", added the ability to control the landing lights located on them at the request of the player. Previously, the function of turning landing lights on and off by the controller worked only for stationary airfields.
- For the MBR-2 aircraft on a wheeled chassis, the impossibility of appearing in statics on stationary airfields has been fixed.
- Fixed a crash damage message in online missions.
- In the player's callsign, it is now allowed to use only English characters and Russian characters, and some special characters.
- For the online game mode, when a player connects to the server, it is required that his callsign is unique and does not repeat the callsign of a player already present on the server.

- In version 4.15, for the online game mode, the players' callsigns are checked for valid characters. Invalid callsigns include:
- empty callsigns or call signs consisting of only spaces
- callsigns containing large or small characters of any alphabet except English and Russian
- callsigns containing special characters not present to the list of acceptable characters: '#', '&', '+', '-', '0', '1', '2', '3', '4', '5', '6', '7', '8', '9', '@', '_'. Please note that the space character is not included in this list!
- callsigns repeating the name of service messages used when logging the mission on the server:
"by", "is", "seat", "crashed", "shot", "and", "destroyed", "landed", "in", "turned", "loaded", "damaged", "has", "entered", "removed", "selected", "CRT2", "started", "stopped", "dropped", "paratrooper", "cargo", "engine", "fuel", "oil", "gear", "keel", "shaft"

Cockpit mirrors:
- Added an option to increase the resolution of the image in the cockpit mirror (for those aircraft where there is a mirror). You can enable and configure the option through the parameter in the current section of the video settings [Render_OpenGL] or [Render_DirectX] by changing the values of the CockpitMirrorQuality key. A value of 0 sets the mirror resolution to 256 pixels, which is the default. Value 1 is 384 pixels, 2 is 512 pixels, 3 is 768 pixels, 4 is 1024 pixels. The maximum value cannot be higher than the minimum game display size (screen height), and if it is exceeded, it is automatically reduced by the game.
- Added support for up to 3 independent mirrors in aircraft cockpits. In the current version, this functionality is used only on the He.177A-3 aircraft. Since this mode heavily loads the video subsystem, a new key has been added in the control settings ‘Combination of Mirror’, which allows you to disable any of the additional mirrors and leave only the necessary ones visible. The previous key responsible for turning on/off the display of all available mirrors has also remained.

Video settings:
- The ShowShadowCarrier key has been added to the video settings section, which allows, when setting the value to 1, to enable the display of shadows on the deck of aircraft carriers from the aircraft carriers themselves (or rather from the deck superstructures). Previously, shadows on the deck were displayed only from planes taking off and flying by, as well as from other aircraft carriers standing nearby (but not from the aircraft carrier itself). There may be a "rattle" of the shadow when deleting, it is recommended to combat this phenomenon by changing the PolygonOffsetFactor parameter in the video settings section.
- Regardless of the settings of the TypeClouds parameter, new clouds corresponding to the TypeClouds=1 value are used.
- There is an accelerated function for determining available video modes to speed up the launch of the game for Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 operating systems. The installer activates this function automatically for the specified OS when patch 4.15 is installed.

Various changes and fixes:
- Changes in the FM of Ju-52.
- Added nation "Vichy".
- On the B-24D-100CO, the animation of the windshield wiper in the cockpits has been fixed.
- Editing the function of opening bomb bays (they cannot be opened when there are no bombs in the bomb bay). AI bomber now doesn't open bomb bays before dropping if they don't have bombs in them.
- For the He-177A-3, the effects of ejection of cartridges when firing on-board weapons have been added.
- For the He-177A-3 changed the position of the tail ANO.
- When flying in a group controlled by a player, the AI wingman now repeats the operation of opening and closing the bomb bay after the player.
- Configurable buffer size when writing to the console log (file log.lst).
-The ricochet of bombs on a surface is the same as in patch 4.09.
- Fixed display of air filters for Bf-109 on desert maps.
- Fixed animation on the MBR-2 aircraft when an open canopy is damaged.
- Fixed on the Ki-27 aircraft the display of bomb racks in the mission.
- Fixed on the P.11C aircraft the display of the bomb racks in the mission.
- Fixed some parachute containers have had their rotation reset after dropping.
- In the cockpits of turrets, a function for precise movement of weapons has been added. When moving the mouse pointer by 1-2 pixels, the weapon moves more accurately (and correspondingly slower), with stronger mouse movements, the weapon moves as before.
- Limited movement of the arrow sight grids on the He-177A3 aircraft during overloads
- Load time optimization for very large mission files.
- Added a complete update of all default objects from the Car category (cars, armored cars, motorcycles, etc.). Basically, textures have been updated, winter camouflage has been added, 3D has been partially corrected - now the drawing distance of these objects has been increased and standardized, and work has also been done to eliminate video buffer overflow when rendering large groups of identical objects.
- Ju52G4e: Added use of Customization.ini file. Allows you to control the visibility and color of the chassis fairings, bind to a default or custom skin a chassis fairing that matches its color.
- Ju52G4e/Ju52G5e: full skin replacement, including winter and desert.
- All aircraft using the Customization.ini file now display the 3D model changes specified by this file in the weapon settings windows of the quick editor, and in the full editor on the overview tabs of the aircraft being edited.
- Fix during processing of Customization.ini files on all used aircraft to allows empty lines and the keywords summer, winter, desert (where such camouflage is available)
- Added debug parameter DebugCustomization to the conf.ini file in the [game] section. When this debugging option is enabled (DebugCustomization=1), when an aircraft skin is selected, the name of the skin and the corresponding hash value of this skin will be printed to the console. These parameters are used only in aircraft with a configuration file Customization.ini

Malware starts up
 
First I got a Dos window a couple of times but n Il-2, I went into task manager and there was a AntiMalware program running, I tried to shut it off but "process could not be completed".
I restarted my PC and I didn't get that DOS screen, but the AntiMalware program is still running in task manager.
And I just tried to start it again to confirm, and the DOS window did come up, (attachment), my monitor went to 1366 from 1080 but no Il-2.

i suppose it can be beacuse of DirectX Sound Wrapper, it depends from what drivers and soundblaster you are using ... from my self i can say that any DSOAL Sound Wrapper don't work at all, i have same picture like you, Il2 won't start if i install it with DSOAL Sound Wrapper. Alchemy works fine, but i suppose it because of that i have creative sound board.

Unfortunately I can't get it to start on my PC.

Is 4.15 compatible with Realtek sound?

I have Windows 10 with Realtek HD Audio sound. I have tried all 8 possible install configurations and none of them will start. Note I have installed to a custom folder, not a Program Files folder.

I notice the new _DirectSound_Wrappers folder has a beta Realtek sub-folder with two dll files but no ini, so I think maybe 4.15 is not compatible with Realtek??

good question. i almost sure that must be some way to use old variant of sound. Will ask about it. may be for now try to delete sound folder.. it's not quite briliant idea .. just first what came up in head. I've just look readme and other doc's no word about default variant of sound, how to switch back to old sound.

Deleting sound files doesn't seem to help.

I also tried putting the beta files from the Realtek folder in the main game directory, but same problem.

Yeap, I just selected Any sound card and Classic exe and it runs, that is a quick load, less than 3 seconds.
Thanks again TD, I hope I find the .50cal gun cam Tracers I asked Santa for in 2014, 15, 16, 17, 18 and then I stopped writing him....🍁

I installed it and it wont run i also have the realtek card, i used the top DSOAL for any and clint exe, ran exe from root directory, it spun but wouldnt open, it did gereerate a HS-pid file which i have pasted the top portion below

Also tried console exe and bottom sound card for any, game opens and runs but NO SOUND, in sound setup i get a grey out balanced in one of the boxes im trying default etc speaker box shows direct out instead of desk top speakers, open game in 4141 and sound works and can play music so sound card is working but not being read?

I too had problems after installing.

But after running the installer a few times, I finally selected the 2nd option for the EXE folder and the 2nd option for the sound folder and it works just fine now.

Realtek Sound 4.15 Installation Selection
 
The bottom sound selection worked for me. indirect sound for any sound card. Hope it helps it took me a while to find one that works with Realtek sound.

Still no luck, i went to realtek and downloaded their 64 bit hd audio driver, latest being jul 2020. installed it and now realtek dosnt show in device manager just hd audio device. sound in 415 still dosnt work with any if the options, works normal in 4141 reg and my lightly moded one. also tried to downlaod another source for 415 multi exe in case one had missiong files etc. still wont work, no sound. worst case scenario i buy a basic creative soundblaster and put it in pci slot???

better no hurry with that. didn't have solution, but hope soon figured out how to solve it.

not sure if it may help. Try to update the java installation on your machine if you haven't done it already, and then re-install the patch.

Ahh ... that might be why I can't start 4.15. I can't even find a Java installation on my PC. From memory I deleted it years ago due to its security risks. I think most programs and applications that use Java these days include the necessary Java elements in the program, so I've never missed it until now maybe.

just installed latest java 80341, same result, no sound tried all 4 via console, no sound and if i click on extenstions in dsoa 1 it crashes, bottom one for all cards gives me eax 1 or 2 and still no sound. sound works all other 414 and music etc. looked on avia skins and they suggested temporarily disabeling anti virus when installing patch then try, same effect no sound. massive frustration level.

He-177 wrong navigation system

First I want to thank this amazing team for this wonderful update.

The He-177 has a fault in its air navigation system. The antenna location needle on the ground moves in the opposite direction.

I had made this same comment a long time ago, when the He-177 plane was used for the first time in the flight simulator. I have compared the navigation system with other German aircraft, such as the Bf-109, Bf-110, FW-190, Ju-88, Do-335 etc.

oh, that's awkward... i remebmer this bug from 4.14 start ... remember also bug reports and how i check it.. and as far i know we fixed that ... but looks like that fix some how don't get in on of last builds ... fixes for that was so long ago that i was sure that is fixed ... will coolect issuses for some "hot fixes"

I have tried the google drive version and the mission 4 today client versions. Have updated Java and from real trek put in there r282 audio driver. Now in device manager it shows as high definition audio but not as Realtek. My nv1050 video card also shows in device manager as a high def audio device. I can get game to load using console and 2nd and 4th sound wrapper.in sound selection settings section I can get balanced 2eax and desktop speakers to show in panel but no sound. Am awaiting hot fix . I am in Windows 10, earlier 4141 versions run fine with sound, I have no extra sounds imported for samples etc. so problem must be in sound settings or wrapper?

I now have 4.15 working with sound with Realtek audio in Windows 10! :grin:

After failing to get the game to start despite trying all 8 install options twice, I have been trying a few alternative fixes.

The thing that worked for me was selecting "Windows Sonic for Headphones" under "Spatial sound" in my Windows 10 speaker options. On my PC setup these speaker options are most easily accessed by right-click on the speaker icon on the taskbar.

Immediately after doing so I tested the Creative sound install that I had done earlier and it works, with or without headphones! Woohoo! I don't see myself doing much real-life work today! :cool:

I tried that and i only get red lights on in dsoa xp eax 2 and the indirect, still no sound, i rolled my realtek back to original so now it says realtek again. when i try creative it dosnt activate any of the eax settings. very frustrating indeed. Glad your up and running. what are your settings creative and client or console?

Thanks stugumby, I'm glad to be up and running, though I'm not sure that it's all good yet.

I'm actually running on the Indirect sound option now because the Creative one has no sound now. Somehow the Spatial sound option had kicked back to "Off" and now using "Windows Sonic" has no effect.

I'm not sure whether they are console or classic because I made those installs a couple of days ago and only named them by sound card option. I think they were classic installs.

In regard to EAX lights, when I go into the non-working Creative sound page I see no lights. When I go into the working Indirect sound page I have lights for EAX 1 and EAX 2, which I think is the limit for my Realtek audio setup. Fingers crossed it stays that way after next reboot!

Client or console will not impact anything related to your issue.
Client just start the game as usual, Console allows having the console right at the start of the game, this allows seeing errors or debug messages when the game starts. Apart from that there is no difference between those two options.

Regarding the sound wrappers, in most of the case DOSAL or DOSAL XP should work fine (one of the two depending on your install). If none are working indirect sound should always work but support only a limited set of features (for example you will be limited in the number of available channels (the number of simultaneous sounds that the game can play at the same time))

The lights show which level of EAX supported by the wrapper in use. There will always only 2 for Indirect Sound.

what if try to stay with sound from 4.14.1?
i mean during instalation of 4.15 not select - install any sound variants?

for more clearest experement best way to install in on fresh copy of 4.14.1

Ok, so i was stooging around looking at working 4141 conf ini and compared it to no sound 415 ini, found my sound set to 0 in conf ini!! changed that to sound=1 and bammo working sound now, using dsoa xp with auto select gave me in a cave sound, went to eax2 and working now! many thanks to Catsy who asked me to send him my conf ini.

Only a small detail. The small mistake is still present.The emergency HUD message on the He-177 is displayed incorrectly ("Forsazh!" instead of ("Erhöhte Notleistung EIN!") in the German localization.

Thanks again to the team for all the hard work on 4.15! And also to all who have helped with info and suggestions. I am now running with the DSO XP option showing EAX 4 lights!

I'm still just getting into it, but I'm loving the increased number of in-cockpit sounds from bullets and shells hitting the aircraft! I get that a lot! :-P

I would like to report an apparent bug though.

One of the guys at M4T reported getting pink skins when trying to use custom skins on the P-38. I also had trouble getting skins to work on stationary C-47s, so I did some checks. It seems there is a bug, but it doesn't happen on all maps, or for all aircraft. It is very hit and miss, but only in 4.15.

For example, go to the Normandy1 map in 4.15 and try skinning a P-38J or C-47. It works fine. But try it on the Italy online or Kursk maps and it doesn't work. Do the same with an I-16 Type 5, F4F-4, F6F-5 and others, and they work.

I don't know how many maps or aircraft are affected by this. I stopped looking when I got to 3 maps and 2 aircraft.

It also affects stationary aircraft, C-47s and P-38Js at least. They don't go pink, they just won't accept skins on those maps.

It seems that default skin settings for these maps may be overriding the custom skin settings somehow. I wonder if there is a simple fix for this.

For me personally this is very disappointing because it means that many missions built with fairly historically correct skins now have totally incorrect markings in 4.15, if they work at all. For example, my Fw 190 Aces mission now displays pre-war US roundels on the stationary C-47s, while all the US aircraft around them are correctly marked with 1944 US roundels, and it seems there is nothing I can do to fix this except to change them to be RAF C-47s instead of USAAF! :???:

What was your fix? As for the skins problem I wonder if it has anything to do with the missions calendar date in fmb? Also would Microsoft vs plus effect anything,virtual studio?

My fix to run 4.15 was selecting "Windows Sonic for Headphones" under "Spatial sound" in my Windows 10 speaker options. Once I did that the game ran under any of the sound install options except the first "DSO" option. It even ran with no sound card option selected, but the one that delivered the most EAX lights was DSO XP. I did lose sound on the Creative install somehow after it had been working, but your "SoundUse=1" tip got that working again, so I actually have 4 different working installs of 4.15 now!

For the skin issue, my Fw 190 mission design is dated 2 April 1944, but the map never did give correct default US roundels for that date. Even in 4.14.1 I had to include custom skins for the mission, which worked fine then, but not now for the C-47s in 4.15. That is the problem. And yet the custom skins work fine in 4.15 for P-39s, Spitfires and Beaufighters at the same airfield in that same mission!

But you don't need to download my Fw 190 mission to see the problem. Please just follow my example of trying to fit C-47 or P-38J non-default skins on a clean Italy online or Kursk map in 4.15 and, if it is a universal problem, it should only take you 30 seconds or so to see it. I know the problem is not isolated to my install, so it may well be a universal 4.15 bug.

France and Vichy France single mission folders??
 
I can see the nations in FMB and quick but are there supposed to be FR and VI? folders to place in single missions file directory. Language should be the same, medals?

When you assign a flight of aircraft as Vichy the game allocates the letters "vi" to that flight, so that is the code for Vichy. If you want a mission/campaign to appear in the game menu as Vichy you will need to create a corresponding folder titled "VI" (or "Vi" would probably also work if you prefer). When you save the mission/campaign to that folder it should then appear in the game menu as France (Vichy) and function in the intended way.

Russian rear gunners won't man gun in U-2 and R-5?
 
Was trying to test R-5 rear gunner reloading, on 4141 he had unlimited ammo, never changed drums. Now I go to gunners pit and can't get the gunner onto his gun. I use Y as bonded key for raise lower turret. Same problem for U-2.

DSOAL_XP wrapper worked for me. I have a Realtek ALC887. I had struggled initially with different wrappers; the plain DSOAL and the Indirect Sound, also fiddled with conf.ini and then finally settled with DSOAL_XP wrapper. The Console or GUI launcher didn't matter. :grin::grin::grin:
