Offline Unlocks? (FAO Anton?)
 

Hi everyone! Been lurking on this forum throughout the development of the game, but I have a question that I can't see answered elsewhere, so I thought it was time to sign up and ask!

I guess this question should probably be directed at Anton (he's a Dev, right?); its great to see a list of available aircraft (thanks for that!), though I see that the best aircraft in the game require a significant amount of online play to unlock. Problem is I don't really play a lot online though and, even when I do, the internet where I live can be a bit patchy at time and I quite often lose the connection :rolleyes: I can generally download DLC without any issues though (thank goodness!).

I wondered if theres any plans to unlock all the aircraft for offline play? I know one or two other games where this has been done (classes etc. being unlocked for offline play) which means that those of us who don't play online so much can access the full contents of the game. For those that do wish to play online though, the challenge of unlocking all the aircraft (and the corresponding Trophies) is still there.

Loving the game so far. Just about wrapped up the Single Player missions, but a fair few of them I've done in Arcade, so I need to go back and do them properly in Realistic! (I'm struggling on Simulator with the controller, so I'm leaving that until I get a stick!)

The only use for the unlocked planes beside MP would be Training missions. Get you lazy back end online mate :-P

Of course I would appreciate single missions allowing you to choose from the unlocked aircraft - even if your choice like a B17 in a dogfight mission made absolutely no sense.

I really like the training option - I like selecting a couple of planes, then bumping up the difficulty and getting into a proper, engaging dogfight. (And yes, its also fun to set up silly scenarios as well!)

To be honest I like to completely wrap up a game in single player before I'd even consider taking it online. I don't know if its as much of a problem with the IL-2 community, but a lot of games I have played online are ruined by idiots. As I said as well my internet isn't brilliant and I know how annoying it can be to play a game online if one of the other players is lagging all over the place - I don't want to become that "other player"! :grin:

With everything unlocked it would be nice to be able to play with all the training options, rather than knowing that some bits are out of reach (especially the Spitfire Mk. XIV :cool:). Without meaning to sound ungrateful as well, having paid £40 for the game, I'd like to be able to access all the options in the game!

The bandwith requirement for online gaming is very low as long as you don't host a session. The host's connection speed is crucial yours not so much.

It's not as simple as that, ping latency is the biggest cause of lag. Also he could just have a really noisy line. This wouldn't matter for http where the router will re send lost packets. In a multiplayer game, once the packet is gone it's gone.

I too would like an alternative way of experiencing the full content on the game disc without having to have an xbox gold account.

The fact that I have got gold is irrelevant. I think it should say on the box if connectivity is required to access all planes. To go back to the gta analogy, u don't have to go online to unlock every car.

This is the most likely cause of my problem. I'm in a block of flats and the line is crap in a few of the flats - unluckily one of them is mine!

This isn't a complaint at the Dev's as, like I said, I love the game, but games these days seem to be increasingly dependant on online play to unlock offline content. I too wish they would indicate it on the box.

Is there audible noise on the line through the handset? if so try unplugging all other phones and using a different phone incase it's ur equipment at fault.

If it's not your equip. at fault, contact BT and they will run tests / send an engineer out. (but if they determine the fault to be your gear they will charge you £120 for the call out)

You pay the same line rental as everyone else and deserve to have the same quality of service :)

Great advice, but I've been living at the same place for sometime now and have already been there and done that! :grin:

BT normally turn up, tell me the line is crap, dick around for an hour then bugger off having solved nothing! At one point they told me they were going to "increase the gain" on the phone line which did actually seem to work... for about a month.

Still the broadband is way more stable than dial up ever was on the same line, but its still a bit prone to dropping in and out. The solution really is for the phone system in the block to be completely renewed.

Yep BT engineers can be pretty useless.

One went to my mums house last month to investigate noise on her line. While he was there my mum mentioned the phone in the kitchen was dead.

Get this: he points to the DOOR BELL wire (leading to a visible bell thing on the wall) which had recently been cut to install a new door, and said "errrrrrrr, someone's cut the line". My mum was like "errr noooo, that's the doorbell wire lol"

he then promtly decided it was all her fault a billed her £120. :confused:

I agree. It kinda sucks! I would love to play the B17 in the Training missions but I have to play online to get it! I work a lot (10+ hours every day) and in the evening I prefer to play smooth, chilled single-player games. I am 41 years old and I don't have a 24/7 gaming schedule like the rest of the online-kids. I would not care to pay for a download of these planes. I got enough money, but no time! So please give us an option to get these planes offline! Thanx a lot....

Agreed. Online only unlocks are a stupid idea simply because its absolutely dependent on other people. HAWKS did the same thing and it failed miserably online, so the vast majority of the game owners will never have a chance to get the extra planes.

However I have a feeling that BoP will have a good following and should be pretty solid online. This at least give us a slim chance of getting some of the aircraft. Though some of the requirements are rediculously high (Mk16 spit = 100 kills in spit~seriously wtf?) and should be reduced by a major factor. And thats not even counting the weapon kits yet.

Anton can you comment on this please?

It can only take 10 to 15 games to get 100 kills, and the Spitfire XVI is worth it, believe me.

Thats if you can actually find a game, which is my point entirely. The player base is to widely split across to many modes and to many difficulty settings. To be honest "player mode" should just be droppped completely and all games should be of the ranked variety. That would condense a lot of the players in together and make the online experience a whole lot better.

Its murder atm just to get a game in the first place never mind score 100 kills in a single aircraft.

Are you on the 360, if so post your GT, nearly all us forum members play together a LOT.

I agree, there needs to be a way to more easily unlock the multiplayer planes. As I suggested in another thread, a paid dlc that unlocks all planes might be the ticket, that way those that play online can get them for free but those who are short on time, don't like multiplayer or just can't find any matches (in the future), can still access the full game content they paid for.

have you played against the b17 or specced up He111 dogfighting....try it and see...if the guy knows what he (or her for SA sprinters) is doing you're f****d...

I don't see this as a viable option either, because most of the ppl who will be most frustrated about this won't be able to get DLC anyway.

For me training is a big part of the game and if i didn't have XBL i would spend most of my time training enjoying all the combination of beautiful weather / location settings.

they need to make so that once you have completed the campaign you can fly ANY plane in training mode, but still have to unlock to take online.

Without meaning to sound like a whinger this isn't an option. If there is DLC to unlock the aircraft for offline use it should be free. I've already paid £40 to play the game and fly all the aircraft I saw in the trailer - including the Spitfire XIV. Charging more money for that is more then a bit cheeky.

Spot on! Surely this wouldn't be hard to implement in a patch/DLC, would it?
