those of you who have unlocked stuff online... were you playing RANKED or PLAYER matches please?

I played a ranked game last night of dogfight with a friend, just me and him and he won and got a weapon unlock for his I-153. It was on the BoB map.

I always find more people doing player matches though? Hopefully with this knowledge in the open people will make the move to ranked matches.

yeah ive played a few ranked matches and got 2 more weapon unlocks, NOW i know why i cant play with my friends :)

Your sig pic is not working as far as I can tell. If it works it is visible in any of your posts, also the earlier ones, so a separate test post is not required.

I may also note that you were the first calling names. De-escalation is not your speciality, is it? :-P

A friend unlocked a BF-109 k by getting 100 online kills... I dont know if it matters but his plane of choice was the BF-109G6....also it was a combo of both ranked and unranked...o3

i also believe i unlocked the weapon pack for the I-153 in a Player match

Finally, i can post replies :). Hi everyone Im edal86, for a long time (2/3 months) I have been trying to post but was doing something wrong I guess. Anyhow, it appears that there is a specific way to unlock planes online. I unlocked the BF 109 K-4 online after using the BF 109 F-4. Killing 100 planes online has nothing to do with it. It is more of a use and get kills with the BF 109's and unlock other BF 109 models. My friend unlocked Spitfire XVI and guess what, all he uses online is Spitfire models.

i can personally confirm BOTH modes unlock things :)

I have not played much online yet. So how are you guys unlocking weapons and planes? Total number of kills, or just by winning a match with that certain plane.

I just unlocked the K-4 while playing online with the G-6.
One thing i do not understand is in witch mode you unlock them. I got the K-4 in a ranked dogfight. Are there any people that unlocked planes outside of ranked match?
This also means that if you would want to unlock the b-17 you would have to get a lot of bomber kills....

Do you mean your friend unlocked the Spitfire Mk XIV? I wasn't aware there was a Mk XVI in the game? Now where is David when I need him? :P

Don't get my hopes up like that:( For a second I thought someone had found the Spitfire XIV (the Griffon engined one), but its just the MkXVI, which is the MkIX with a Packard built Merlin instead of a Rolls Royce built Merlin, a bubble canopy and the E wing armament of 2 20mm cannon and 2 .50cal MGs. Still a very nice plane but I really want to see the MkXIV at some point in the future.

I haven't unlocked any planes online yet... But I have unlocked weapons for the Hurricane Mk. II in a player match, so as others said I don't think it really matters if it's a ranked or player match.

So the MkXVI is in game? I'm going to have to look for it online then. *begins calling friend for match*

has anyone thought of the possibility of unlocking in training? I can't get broadband where I live and would be angry if I can't unlock online planes

I can confirm that you unlock the Spitfire mk XIV in multiplayer. I know a guy that flies it against my beautiful La-7 all the time. He said he unlocked it by getting a hundred kills with the Spitfire Mk IX. He's not 100 percent sure though.

Spitfire Mk XIV or Mk XVI? XIV has a Griffon engine, XVI still has a Merlin like the IX but has a bubble canopy and clipped wingtips.

Since I know that there this Spit unlockable, I spent 3h playing with the IX, and god I'm really a shitty pilot with this one, I unlocked nothing :(

SO MANY BF-109's!!!!!! All i know is i can't wait to start bombing stuff online with my friends...all i need though is a B-17...now how the hell do i do that.

The answer is simple: the plane you use helps unlock another type of plane in the same family. Spits for Spits, 109s for 109s. I have been doing a lot of Strike lately and seem to get a lot of unlocks when I go off bombing. I'm really hoping for that B-17 just to have it, I would prefer a B-24. Lots of anger in this thread, especially considering we don't have any clear picture of the entire unlocking strategy, just a few scarce things here and there.

I just unlocked weapons for the Po by winning a 'Capture Airfield' game using the Ju. I got one kill and captured the airfield.

If anyone else can post there details of how they unlocked stuff, we might see a pattern

Ah well, I can still fly the Spitfire XIV in Il2 1946:cool:

like I suspected, I started using the spitfire II, and IX and at about 50 kills from playing simulation and realistic I unlocked the following (this is online matches only):

*Spitfire mk XVI (clipped wings)
*Spitfire mk XVI - 2 x 7.7mm Browning machine guns, 2 x 20mm Hispano mk I cannons, 2 x 250 lb bombs

Not to give them any ideas, but what the developers could do in the future is make a DLC pack that unlocks every plane in the game, for a price. Burnout Paradise has this. That way, people who want to put in the time can unlock them for free but those lacking the time and the talent can still download the DLC and get access to their favourite plane, for a price. Don't you guys miss the days of PC when you could just download someone else's save game? I dislike the fact that consoles take away your freedom to mod your own game.

The planes I know of and have unlocked in multi thus far:

I play mostly player matches because I tend to play in a room full of friends, so A) it doesn't matter if you play ranked or unranked; B) the plane you use determines the plane you get.

100 kills in Spitfire Mk IX unlocks Spitfire Mk XVI (bubble canopy, Packard engine, 2 machine guns, 2 x 20mm cannons, can also carry 2 x 250lb bombs)

100 kills in Bf-109 G-6 unlocks Bf-109 K-4

100 kills in Fw-190 D9 (possibly A5 too, just did it in the D9) unlocks Fw-190 F8(ground attack version, pretty hard to kill)

I have unlocked quite a few weapons packages doing assorted Strike games, but I didn't keep track of them. I have been told that 100 Hurricane kills will unlock the Hurricane II, which had 4 x 20mm cannons, but I haven't seen one yet. My best advice is to keep killing, stop leaving games when you're losing, and please keep track of what you're unlocking so we can get this mess behind us.

Good info. I knew about the Spit and the K-4. Any info on the ground attack weapon kit for the Fw-190 F8?

Yeah... I wish ALL planes could be unlocked without needing to play multiplayer. They should all be unlocked by playing in campaign, single missions and training. It's just not fair for people that don't have their console online...

I understand your point of view, however, console gaming has changed over the years. To get the full experience you should really have HDTV and ADSL.

You would really do yourself a favour by getting your console online, you're missing out on so much good stuff! ;)

I REALLY like this idea. This would be a great option for people like me who don't play very much of multi-player.

I connect my PS3 console to my modem when I want to go online. I just don't do it very often. I'll probably give multiplayer a try this weekend. Thanks for the tips...

The unlocks are geared towards multiplayer anyway. Only other mode they could be used in is training. Aside from the Spitfire I've already unlocked the only other one I'd strive for is the B-17. As for them being DLC I would think its doubtful as collecting them all nets you an achievement.

what about the me 109 G-10?
