The Mossie
Noticed a few of you on this forum have the De havilland mosquito as a avatar and wondered how many more of you are fans of this GREAT aircraft?
To me, it was THE plane of WW2, it could perform in any role, with success. I also noticed that some of you have suggested "mossie type" missions (eg reconnaissance missons) to see in DLC and wondered does anyone know if the Mossie is in BOP or is there any plans to release this wooden wonder in DLC? I think it'll fit right in, and would be perfect for ground attack missons already in the game. No need to record engine sound either, they could get away with using the Spitfire engine sound. It WILL need the right cockpit though ;) |
Yes, I'm a bit of a fan, and I agree it's a bit disappointing it wasn't in the game.
The mossie was a great plane and inspiration for many other great planes. And of course the B-25 was influenced by it, so that's got to be something, at least for me. I liked this picture of a couple of Mitchell's flying with a mossie (probably at an airshow or something, though I'm not sure), like the comment says not sure you'll be seeing that again anytime soon! http://www.flickr.com/photos/wurzels/3220002985/ |
Well i'm still hoping it will be in the game as no official plane list has been released has it?
Just have to cross my fingers I guess. Engine sound would be easy but i'd want to be able to here both of them, the he111 have dual engine sound im pretty sure from the demo. The mosquito would just use the same as he111 but with the merlin sound effect instead. Just like listening onboard to Rossi and Lorenzo riding their Yamaha's in 1st and 2nd in motogp. |
it would be great to fly the wooden wonder in this game, so hopefully some DL content in the near future will allow for this, fingers crossed.
On a side note though.... its good to the the bristol blenhiem in their for a change and flyable to i believe. Makes a welcome change and i look forward to trying her out. Will need some damn good air cover though haha. |

Speaking of my sig, the planes a little too thin, I think I stretched it out too much. D'oh! I't's about time for a new one anyway though. :) |
You can tell its a blenhiem in your sig though so wouldnt worry to much ;)

The Mossie, along with the Ju-88, were probably the most versatile aircraft of WW2. And, there's no question as to which one was prettier, or better to fly.
Still, the Ju-88 was a great 'plane in her own right. LJB:cool: |
Aye, the Mossie was a beautiful aircraft. One of my all-time favourites.
EDIT: Please add it as DLC!!!! |

Hawker Hurricane Avro Lancaster Bomber De Havilland Mosquito 3 icons. Beautiful aircraft. |
I was lucky enough to see it at the Duxford airshow a week before the crash. Blew me away how amazing the plane looked, flew and sounded. I would LOVE to see one fly again.
Never seen it used to its full potential in games though. Would be amazing to see it in BOP because as i said most of the missions on the game are "mossie like" |

^ This I like! Mine would be 1) Spitfire - I still think it is the greates thing ever created by man! 2) Lancster - You can't really go wrong with 4 merlins 3) Hawker Hunter - So pretty, not a wasted line |
Just a shame we will never see a flying Mossie again = (
|
Never is a very long time. I wouldn't be so supprised if one day someone has a go at restoring one to flying condition.

your wish may be granted sooner than you think ;) their are roughly 4 mossies that are being restored to flight worthy. ONE was due to be shown at this years classic air show in new zealand, making it the first flying mosquito sine the crash in 96. Unfortunately it didnt happen, but it should be flying VERY soon ;) Also their is another currently under restoration at Victoria Air Maintenance at Victoria International Airport and is not far at all from becoming air worthy again, vry very close infact. |

Well I got to fly the blenhiem today! The heavy bombing is actually pretty fun, but thing obviously moved like a tank, I'm gonna need a lot of cover doing that in multiplayer! I can't wait to see what the B-17 flies like though, anyone got to that point yet?

it wouldnt need escorts, since its faster than its escorts for a start haha. it would just fly in, drop bombs, fly out. All in a days work for the mossie. |

But then again, I'd be happy to be proven wrong! |
i agree with many of you that the mossie was THE GREAT aircraft of ww11, and many years after, any role it undertook ended in success, and lets not forget that for a long period of time it was the fastest propellor powered aircraft of the war. Great shame not to see it in the game possible the biggest unsung hero of the war.
check out mossie.org for info on possible airworthy restorations etc ;) |
The mossie was the first plane to be built here in Australia in the 40's, the first car the holden wasnt till the fifties.
|
For those interested, today is the 70th anniversary of the first flight of the Mosquito with thousands ever built.
|
love the mossie its a superb aircraft would love to see it in the game in the future and hope it becomes part of a package like the P47 is :)
