Music/Bands you will listen to while playing?
Basically like the title implies, what bands and style of music will you be listening to while playing BoP? I've already silenced the background music in the game, for something more exciting like Wagners "Flight of the Valkyrie", Beethoven's "5th Symphony & 9th Symphony". And then when I'm staying up "past" my bed time (:P) Probably start popping in some Dead Kennedys "Holiday in Cambodia", "Police Truck", "Pull My Strings" and even some other Heavy Metal, Punk, and Rock&Roll bands that I've listened to since I was like six years old :P But during the morning, and such, I'll be listening to some calming Symphony music :D
(And yes, I have a variety of music genre's I like. Not like some of the kids nowadays that I see, where they only choose one genre... idiots.) |
"Aces High" by Iron Maiden
For classical music, I have "Requiem for a Dream" by Clint Mansell. "Theme from Armaggedon"(Trevor Robin) which is the music in that IL2BoP compilation from YouTube. |

Why must we choose one genera and viciously defend it against all others? Why can't people who like country also like Rock etc.?:-? Achem... Rant over. Anyway I shall probably be going classical when it comes to IL-2, I feel like it sets the mood best.;) |
a great piece to listen to (works well on red cliffs of dover, due to battle of britain) is -
battle in the air (sir william walton), its the music from the 1969 film "battle of britain" where the climatic dogfight is happening overhead. A chilling piece of music and really sets the mood. It lasts for roughly 5 minutes so is quite long. I will post a clip of it if poss. |
Or you can play "Cliffs of Dover"(entirely instrumental) in the Cliffs of Dover mission.:-P

Also, it's a sailing song, but I always think that Crosby, Stills & Nash "Southern Cross" works. Maybe it's just me? I can't remember the hundreds of times my father used to play that song over and over again. It's been burned into my skull LOL |

growing up watching the film i obviously had no idea, i just really enjoyed it. It was truly epic. But then as you get older and you enjoy these thnigs more you do come to realise that they are not legitimate etc, but does not hide the fact that its an incredible film.
If im correct, also the HE111's used in the film didnt have the HE111's engine but something different, not sure what. For the film they had a fair few spitfires but only 2 or 3 airworthy hurricanes. Still one of the greatest war films ever made!! battle of britain 633 squadron the dambusters three superb war films. |

EDIT: Also, some Leo Kottke is good to play when your flying. |

Their was 17 "messerschmitts" and 2 HE111's that were flown from spain to duxford for the filming, but en route one 109 and a HE111 had techical faults and had to pull out. I do recall they caught up later on. |
im going to listen to GG ALLIN the scumiest rock and roller ever so i can kill hella people and some metal, ill like the pilots that take a tape player in their cockpits and bump some hardcore rock and roll....
|
I'm going to rinse this out at the end of every mission...

"Aces High", "The Trooper", and "Pachendale" by Iron Maiden and "Cliffs of Dover" by Eric Johnson. Oh and and most all of the songs from the original command and conquer soundtrack. Still the best soundtrack for a game of all time IMO.

No music is authentic too... the RAF issued an order in 1939 banning the use of iPods by aircrew whilst flying, after a series of mishaps! |

isn't it though... ________ Honda Cl100 History |
the 109's in the film did have the merlin engine, alot of work went into making them "look more like 109's" for example... adding machine guns and cannons, sorting the wing tips out.
Alot of work went inot the film in trying to get so many aircraft together for filming. I have te book on the making of the film, and one part goes on about when they arrived at duxford. Some old war vet was standing their looking at all theses swastikas on the field and hen said.... "well, its a strange sight isnt it? considering the fact that we won the war, i never thought id see a squadron of those buggers sitting on our airfields" it made me chuckle |
i dont think i will listen to any kind of music during flight time it just doesnt work for me gaming and then listen to music but i listen to almost everything acoustic rock mostly also some harder rock but also some Dutch rap music but i am very pickie when it comes to this rap and i also listen to dance/trance music (dj tiesto, armin van buren) i can apriciate some good bob marley when the moment is right so i like a real variety of music:grin:

Ok Soviet Ace: First I've got some bad news. That He-111 you were in belonged to the Commemorative (formerly Confederate) Air Force. Sadly, it crashed several years back, killing both pilots. But it's good that you got to check her out while we still had her.
It's an amusing fact that every plane in the Battle of Britain movie was powered by a Merlin (except the Ju-52 near the beginning). This is actually quite ironic, since the first Me-109 prototype was powered by a Rolls-Royce Kestrel! I believe some of the He-111 scenes were filmed over Spain, so they'd have the full support of the Spanish air force's 111s. I may be mistaken, but I believe all of the He-111s lined up at the beginning were actual air-worthy Spanish 111s. (but don't quote me on that.) Anyway, back to the topic at hand: I'm gonna stick with the game music for most of the campaigns. (I may have to play Horst Wessel, Alte Kameraden or die Fallschirmjager Lied during MP with German planes, though!) During the Soviet campaigns I have something special planned! I've got a CD of old Soviet music from the Red Army Choir and other Russian groups. It's great stuff! (and no, I'm not a communist) I'm surprised you aren't doing something similar, Soviet Ace ;) I agree with you completely about liking many genres of music. I like classical, some opera, sailor shanties, Chinese zither music, old German marching songs (NOT a Nazi either!), old Soviet music, old American patriotic songs (except the religious ones), medieval music, 80's metal, heavy metal, rock in general, electronica (techno, trance, hardstyle, etc) As you can see, no one could ever accuse me of being narrow-minded when it comes to music. :) |

Easy, Holst The Planets. I saw a documentary on the Spitfire when I was like 8 and during the Battle of Britain sequence they played Mars Bringer of War or whatever and it stuck with me. Its immedietely follwed by a mornful Venus Bringer of Peace which is perfect post battle, really suits the 'lone Spitfire gliding gracefully over the green land it protects etc etc' as does Elgars Serenade in E minor Op. 20: I. Allegro piacevole. Strangely its bizarre how well the music seems to work in tandom with the events unfolding in the actual game. Another great one for it is Elgars Pomp and Circumstance Marches. Only really for the British scraps though, when defending ol' blighty from the hun and all that!

Music, in this game, is really incredible for my taste. I think I will finish everything with the OST that it carries... maybe when I have all my work done I´ll try Wagner or something that invites to liberate Europe.
