-=<202nd>=- Exorcists Fighter / Bomber Squadron (GMT Time Zone)

Hi there, I'm new here, but not new to FR (Full Realism) flight sims.

I used to fly all the way back in Air Warrior I through III, and Aces High, before moving onto IL-2 series on the PC. however my video card committed suicide and took my monitor with it, so I now use the Xbox360 for all my gaming needs.

I used to run a 30+ strong Squadron on Air Warrior III called the 202nd Exorcists Fighter / Bomber Squadron

Then I joined a 50+ Squad called Kraits Squadron which eventually left Air Warrior III for aces high, and eventually moved onto the IL-2 Series.

I'm looking for people who will be playing in the GMT timezone, to join a squad, so please respond here if you fancy becoming part of the:

-=<202nd>=- Exorcists FIghter / Bomber Squadron

http://202nd.webs.com/

for IL-2 Birds of Prey.

Thanks all for any information / help / support. (3 days remaining!) :)

I will create a website and forum for the squad and post it here.

This woud be useful information:

Whatever's needed of me! I'm sure after a few games, we'll know what role suits us best!

Looking forward to it!!

vincent1989 09-01-2009 01:24 PM

hey, i'm looking for a group to play this with, gamer tag is the same as my username. i'm not to fussed what role i play, but i would suggest i'd do better as a fighter (although i would enjoy a bomber equally, but probably wont be as competent) :D

House MD 221B 09-01-2009 01:50 PM

this would be helpful info for the website

and remember its about fun, so it doesn't matter if you don't know if you'll make a good bomber pilot or not, practice, try it, see if you enjoy it, and if you're not good, then we can all work together to get better :)

Hi House. Welcome to the forum :)

I'd be intrested in joining you, sounds like you have quite a bit of experience in running squadrons. I used to play Jane's WWII fighters quite a bit but only ever single player campagnes and before that I played Tornado a lot on my first ever pc. Ive only ever been up against real people in Ace Combat 6 in which I refuse to use QAAM (fire and forget missiles which require no skill to use) as I hate them with a passion. I'm looking forward to the more simulation orientated BoP and to killing anyone who thinks circle flying works best lol.

omg i used to ahve tornado! lol god have you seen how it looks compared to how we remember it? lol and Janes WWII fighters looked amazing in its day, although sadly i never got round to buying it. but thanks for your support, consider yourself added :)

So your saying circling isnt the pinnacle of combat flying tactics???
I'm screwed that's all I've got.

is it a better or worse tactic than stalling at every turn? seriously, if the p51 was like that in real life i'd never have made it off the run way XD , big beasty though, saw one at the imperial war museum, absolutely dwarfs the british offerings.

Haha no I haven't even seen a screenshot of Tornado's graphics in over 10 years. Don't think I want to either, I remember it being awesome on my 386 pc back in 1994, lol don't want to ruin that. Anyway thanks for adding me. I will look forward to the Declaration of war ;) (Website is looking very nice by the way)

House MD 221B 09-01-2009 03:08 PM

they were the days eh? lol what makes me chuckle is that look at the SIZE of those games, and the specs of the machine, i mean the xbox cant handle more than 18 players, but Air warrior used to handle 250 people with 56k modem technology, granted almost EVERY kill was a lag kill, but at least EVERYBODY was lagging. :)

vincent1989 09-01-2009 03:37 PM

afaik it's only 16 player online, 8 per side, thought it best to mention :)

House MD 221B 09-01-2009 04:03 PM

ok cool, on the multiplayer video it said 18 player multiplayer, but i shall assume its 16 for now, i can always add more slots onto the site :) thanks

I dont mind being thrown at the top of gold wing for now.... is gold wing the ground attack group? Thats my main job!! in hard and low, then out fast. If i need to dogfight i will, but destroying the target is my main objective

House MD 221B 09-01-2009 05:19 PM

right now its just filling slots, once we all have the game and see what we like and dont like, then ill try and arrange people to be with people they like flying with etc. but on the whole i think groups will be mixed, because each individual flying style compliments the other, with we send out a wave of fighters, or a wave of bombers, or a wave of low level flyers on their own, they'll just get pasted, so i think mixing it up would be good, bombers with escourts, low flyers with higher altitude protection etc.

Yeah it's a pain that. Used to be able to do that on the old xbox within each game. You were able to setup clans with your moto and other stuff, and give certain people the ability to recruit new people who would automaticly apear on the clan list for everybody to see. It was so much easier than every single person having to be friends with each other and having friends from different games all muddled together, its such a mess. Can't imagine why that ability disapeared when the 360 arrived.

FOZ_1983 09-01-2009 05:30 PM

Ive come over from EAW (European Air War) and CFS2 on the pc so dont mind a bit of dogfighting or escort. Im good at them (not the best but i get the job done, might not be pretty...but its done).

I will have to wait for the official list to know what planes are avaliable, but if its ground attack..... i want armour and something that packs a punch..... the IL2 would suit this. Though im not a huge IL2 fan...

If im dogfighting or escorting then i want something fast, powerful, agile........ this will be the spitfire or P51 i think.

Will be taking the hurricane up ALOT though, just to prove to you fly boys that she's a work horse and can do the job she's needed for ;)

i dunno, hopefully they'll add something like it again if enough people ask, even if it were just a grouping system akin to MSN.

House MD 221B 09-01-2009 05:31 PM

its interesting isnt it, that they can provide all this functionality elsewhere e.g. MSN, where u can sort contacts into groups, but not on the Xbox 360 :) and yes adding pre-fixes and suffixes without having to change you live account name would be nice too.

some games include it, i agree it should be down to the console publisher to allow for things like that BUT the option is there for games publishers to take advantage of should they choose (CoD4/WaW is a good example of this)

added you all to my friends list btw

House MD 221B 09-01-2009 05:52 PM

they only allow for 3-4 letters in a pre-fix though and no suffix, its a little strict

but i do aggree im sure theres nothing sopping anyone from coding more into a game

mattd27 09-01-2009 06:20 PM

Looks like you've got it set up very well. I'd love to join, but I'm GMT-5. Good luck anyway!

House MD 221B 09-01-2009 06:24 PM

shame, well feel free to fly with us if u see us on, or if we end up having a regular night / time that suits you, you're welcome to hook up with us.

you never know if we end up having a Squad Meeting time of Saturdays at 8pm or 9pm it's only 3-4pm your time :) (unless you work weekends)

PedroTheGoat 09-01-2009 06:32 PM

Wow!!! Love the website and history!

I would join up in a heartbeat. Too bad this Goat is from the US. I would lag something crazy flying with you.

House MD 221B 09-01-2009 06:35 PM

thanks guys i appreciate your kind words, and the offer is extended, try it, you may or may not lag, i regularly play with a canadian and we dont lag that much.

feel free to try, if it works it does, if it doesn't it doesn't :)

and if you want any help setting up an american wing, i'd be happy to help, you could then either join us as an american detachment, or become a rival clan and we can set up matches :)

the possibilities are endless :D

PedroTheGoat 09-01-2009 06:41 PM

I'll talk to a couple of my wingmen that I live close to... We're all pretty skilled as far as I'm aware. If they agree to take on your leadership instead of starting our own squadron then I would love to be an American attatchment of you squad. You guys seem to have a rich history and a great system already in place.

More specifically, we could head up your Texan wing. ;)

Feel free to add me though: PedroTheGoat

Soviet Ace 09-01-2009 06:46 PM

I've played with some Englishmen and some other people from Europe, and whenever we play, it doesn't lag. I think it's the time of day/night you play?

I probably won't start joining any Squadron, but if you see a Yak-3 flying low and alone, that might be me? I'll be flying the Yak-3 as my signature plane. ;)

Born in Texas, so I qualify. Would be interested in at least discussing some of the above possibilities.

PedroTheGoat 09-01-2009 06:52 PM

Hmmmm... This may be the seeds of greatness in the works.

House MD 221B 09-01-2009 06:53 PM

In which case, I'll set up an american detachment,

eventually we'll choose a Wing Commander, and you guys can run pretty much autonomously if you like, with separate meeting times that are convenient etc.

and then if we get american clans challenging us, i'll pass them through to your wing commander and you can chose if u can accept or not. :)

how does that sound?

PedroTheGoat 09-01-2009 06:56 PM

Sounds like a plan to me. Already talked to my friends... They are going to check out the website and infrastructure.

mattd27 09-01-2009 07:05 PM

Sounds like things are in motion.

I still need to think a bit more before joining, to be a good squad I'm assuming people need to be committed and held accountable for getting there at certain times etc. I wouldn't want to throw a spanner in the works with my ever changing schedule.

If I decide it would be too much, it would be great to exchange Gamertags anyway and just fly for fun when we're on at the same time, if anyones interested. ;)

EDIT: that last statement is directed at anyone, not just people from said squadron. :)

Good news is the multiplayer runs off servers instead of being player hosted, so it should be pretty smooth and lag free regardless of player location.

Wish the replay feature from the PC games made it through. Not that I make very good movies, but being able to look back on an epic fight from a different perspective is great. I'm going to have to get an Ace Edge too, not that the game is unplayable with the game pad but having compared my flying with a 360 pad on the PC and the same thing with my flight stick there is a definite edge there.

Okay. It's official. I am part of Eagle Wing.

User Name: PedroTheGoat

First Name: Trey

Preference of type: Well rounded. Mostly ground attack... But no heavy bombers. ie: IL-2, IL-10, P-47, etc.

Favorite Plane: P-47 Thunderbolt/IL-2

Country of Origin: USA: Texas

Not new to flight sims... Has always been my favorite genre. I do happen to be new at WW2 flight sims. My flight sim origins are: SU-27 Flanker, Falcon 4.0, US Navy Fighters, EF2000 (My favorite flight sim before BOP).

Now... Could someone explain to me why my Spitfire has no Forward looking Radar or even AIM-9 Sidewinders??? And how am I supposed to Lase a target???? (Just kidding of course)

So hurry up and add me so I'm not a lonely Goat.

I really don't want to show the shame of David going down in flames LOL I'll try to get a movie of it, and will be sure to be the most arrogant guy on here when I win. :P Not really, I'll be a good sport for whoever wins.

I've got both consoles, and will be buying it for both. So don't worry, there will be plenty of time. My next paycheck should be coming around near the middle of next month, so I'll buy the game for which ever console I don't buy it for first.

EDIT: This month, I forgot it was the 1st :P

Preference to Fighters / Bombers / All-Rounder No idea yet, anything that compensates for my lack of flying ability?

Favourite Plane to fly in game. again, no idea TBH I feel compelled to not pick a Spitfire as I always tend towards avoiding the obvious choices. I'd like there to be an F6 Hellcat in the final game, always liked them after doing a rather good job on an Airfix kit as a kid.

Country of Origin. England

Ok, if I'm coming across as arrogant then sorry, really don't mean to be taken that way, just trying to give as good as I get. Anyway, since I won't be flying my usual plane (Bf109=no cockpit), I'm going to end up flying the Yak-3(or maybe the Spitfire IX) against someone who always flys the Yak-3 and sounds very good at flying it. So, probably going to go down in your favour, at least at first:)

Only 3 days to go for the European launch:D Better start practising with the Yak-3 in Il2 1946 then........

When are you guys getting the game in the US?

Robotic Pope 09-01-2009 10:04 PM

It comes out tomorrow in the US now doesn't it?

Actually i'm supprised there hasn't been anyone posting on here saying they already have it. When I pre-order a game from play.com it often gets to me a day early. I thought it would be the same for US online shops.

So anyway you guys across the atlantic better take some time out from flying tomorrow and give the rest of us on here a sit-rep.

House MD 221B 09-01-2009 10:20 PM

I want to thank all you guys for your support,

im truely stunned at how well this took off, i thought i might get one or two interested but not 9 plus an international american division too, im truely shocked, let's make this work and have some great times.

also, let me know if your friends are interestd in joining the American division.

oh lummy, if they're bad at the real thing one can only quake in terror at the amount of blue on blue involved in practice missions

out of curiosity will there be any point fueling up or will you have shot each other to pieces before we can even scramble? :-P

just having you on chap :)

FOZ_1983 09-02-2009 12:07 AM

Lol!

Oh you can fuel up... You won't need to fuel up enough to make it home though.

Little point in that. ;)

It would be a good idea to see if there is a way to jettison your landing gear too... Also little point in having that.

i'll keep both, wouldn't want to run of fuel before i'm finished scaring the countryside with yank planes and then not be able to land. that's a ruddy German tactic (although i wont be adverse to a little mid air wing clipping if the ammo runs dry )

FOZ_1983 09-02-2009 12:34 AM

Na the yanks tend to shoot first, ask questions later hahahahaha.

I'll find out what their operational zone is prior to the mission starting then i'll steer well clear or take a well earned day off that particular day lol

:P

The Yak-3 is for everyone who has always wanted a nimble, light, and fast dogfighter. Also a good plane at the controls.

First response:

When you and me fly against one another, the skies will always end up Red. I mean, it would become some weird color(s) if you won :P AND FLY THE SPITFIRE MKIX!!!!! I always wanted to shoot down an Englishman in his own national plane :P

Second reponse:

I'm buying it tomorrow or the 3rd, so don't worry. Me and my little Yak-3 will be ready for you. We're always ready for you. ;)

I dont want to be the nay sayer about the Yak but I just never liked the plane, maybe its because of the Il2 1946 Multiplayer and everyone was the LA or the FW. Ive tried using it many times it just never did what i want it to do. Maybe i was just doing it wrong.

Well as of right now it seems that I alone am the yank wing. I hopefully can get a couple of my buds to join soon. They're decent flyers too. We'll even attempt not to shoot you down when we're flying on the same side... Maybe. ;)

I meant I needed to start practising with the Yak-3, but okay. I've been flying the Yak-3 some over the las couple of days and it seems a very good plane. Its either that or the Spitfire IX, so I'm gonna try them out vs each other.

That's because no one new how to fly the Yak, but me (:D) I always flew and knew how to handle it, and also because everyone always wanted the "best" big gunned plane. In reality, the Yak-3 is a simple plane to fly and handle. I do hope they made the Yak-3 like it was in real life.

Yeah I might try it as well?

Fenavian 09-02-2009 04:42 AM

Wow.. It's been a while since I seen anyone from Air Warrior. Heck I used to play the original when it was on AOL. ;p Heck I would be happy to pal around with you guys, though I am not interested in joining a squad, its always nice to meet fellow AW's. My Gamertag on XBL is the same as my Forum name here. :)

You should consider joining the yank wing.
I'm pretty lonely on the roster alone.

Been flying the Yak-3 for a couple of fights vs the Bf109G10 and Spitfire IX. It is very good at turning fights, big advantage over the G10 in turn and roll, especially at high speed. Not so much over the Spitfire IX, if anything the Spitfire has an edge at low speed but the two planes are very close. Yak-3 and Spitfire very close in top speed, G10 is a bit quicker. Good climber, but both the IX and the G10 are very good climbers, so they have an edge here. Dive rates are very similar across the board but the Yak-3 has the best high speed control responses.

Only thing I'm not really happy about is the firepower. Duelling with a pair of G10s, and I shot down one, then went after the other. Hit him with a snapshot that get him smoking, but the single cannon runs out of ammo during the snapshot. So I thought, no problem, he's already in damaged, I'll just knock him down with the MGs. Haul round on his tail, open fire and the MGs run out of ammo in about 1 second. Cursed, turned and dived away, but the G10 didn't come after me so I started following it and it went down on its own a couple of minutes later.

So I was curious, because I hadn't been using much ammo even though the Yak-3's guns don't seem to do as much damage as a Bf109 with a similar armament of 1 20mm cannon and 2 13mm MGs. Timed the firing time and the Yak-3 has only 9 seconds for the 20mm Cannon and 10 for the 2 12.7mm MGs. A Bf109G with that armament has 13 seconds for the cannon and 20 for the MGs, and really it should be more, they only have 150 rounds of 20mm ammo when they could have 200 but the game has no option to increase the ammo loadout.

House MD 221B 09-02-2009 08:09 AM

yeah Fenavian, its been a long time since the AOL version, i was about 10 or 11 lol playing on my dad's PC. happy memories. was a great game, the other squadron I was in Kraits Squadron did that skinning program fo it to liven up the sea / land / planes. cant remember the name, but i did quite a few skins for that.

(mostly planes) i didnt do well with the land textures :)

haitch40 09-02-2009 10:54 AM

my god you have grown quick
shame u can do cross system mp then you and V.A.S. could fight
cough ps3 rules cough

House MD 221B 09-02-2009 11:02 AM

it is a massive shame, cus i doubt any one woud have any advantage over the other :)

and i shall ignore the last comment, because my brothers and i regularly have this argument, (jamie and I are pro x-box even though microsoft are rubbish, and andy is pro PS3 because sony have web browser function and good system support) what an idiot :) hehe.

xbox has better controllers... that's all ive got, and all my mates use it, so thats why personally for me it beats PS3, even though the PS3 is better in EVERY other respect :)

P.S. yes im truely amazed at the response, i especially never though we'd be setting up an american wing inside 24 hours :)

I didn't think I would join your squadron within 24 hours either. I'm still hoping to get my two buds on board. I don't think they're going to sign up until we actually get the game.

Good stuff either way. I'm proud to be a part of the 202nd.

PedroTheGoat 09-02-2009 04:21 PM

By the way... I just fell in love with the new patch.
